President-elect Donald Trump says Nigel Farage would make a ‘great’ ambassador to US
US Presidential-elect Donald Trump Monday said UKIP leader, Nigel Farage “would do a great job” as Great Britain’s ambassador to The United States. “Many people would like to see Nigel Farage represent Great Britain as their Ambassador to the United States. He would do a great job,” tweeted Trump.
Nigel Farage, a key figure in the Brexit movement, was the first British politician to meet with Trump after he won the Presidential election. Just three days after the election results were declared, Farage was spotted in the lobby of the Trump tower and the meeting between the two was described as “very productive”.
Farage also posted a picture on Facebook and Twitter of him with Trump. “It was a great honour to spend time with Donald Trump today. He was relaxed, and full of good ideas. I’m confident he will be a good President,” read the photo caption. Farage has been a longtime supporter of Trump and had even attended a republican campaign event in Mississippi in August, where he introduced 70-year-old Trump to the rally.
Trump made frequent references to Brexit throughout his Presidential campaign, saying it demonstrated the wish for change among voters frustrated with establishment politics. Both politicians also share similar hardline views on immigration and other economic policies. Trump’s tweet comes at a time when Farage renewed his bid to re-elected as MP. He is also expected to be among the invitees to Trump’s swearing-in ceremony.
