Ohio woman burns down home trying to kill bed bugs

A woman using alcohol in an attempt to kill bed bugs accidentally set her multi-family home on fire, displacing 10 residents, reports say.

It’s the second time in less than a month that a home was damaged by fire in Cincinnati in an attempt to kill bed bugs. Late last month, a 13-year-old boy trying to kill the pests set a fire that caused $300,000 in damage to his apartment complex and displaced eight people.

The fire late Friday night in the city’s Avondale neighborhood caused $250,000 in damage and sent three people to the hospital for treatment for smoke inhalation, WXIX Channel 19 reports.

Firefighters believe the alcohol used by the woman in her first-floor unit was ignited by an open flame, either a candle or burning incense, WXIX reports.

Firefighters advised that people trying to get rid of bed bugs hire a professional.
