USA Simone Biles to do all around in gymnastics Olympics team final: RIO DE JANEIRO — Simone Biles will be the only gymnast to compete in all four events Tuesday as the American women look for a second consecutive Olympic team gold.
Gabby Douglas, meanwhile, will compete only on uneven bars.
The all-around champion from London has been one of the best of the world in her comeback. She finished second at worlds last year and was third in qualifying and didn’t make the all-around final because of the two-per-country rule.
Douglas was the only American to do the all-around in the team final in London, but the U.S. pipeline has produced a team that is even deeper and more versatile than the Fierce Five.
Biles, the three time world champion, is favored to win the all-around and multiple event titles here. Laurie Hernandez, who made the team as its youngest member at 16, will do vault, balance beam and floor.
Fierce Fiver Aly Raisman, who finished second in qualifying to make the all-around final, will do those same three events. And Madison Kocian will compete on bars, where she is a world champion.
