Red Wings, Flames brawl in Detroit’s blowout win

Red Wings, Flames brawl in Detroit’s blowout win:- Tensions got high in the third period Wednesday night as the Detroit Red Wings scored and punched their way to an 8-2 victory against the Calgary Flames.

The score was 6-2 with 5:56 left when Detroit’s Luke Witkowski beat up the Flames’ Brett Kulak. Witkowski got ejected, and Calgary’s Matthew Tkachuk hit Witkowski on the ankle with his stick as the Red Wings player tried to walk down the hallway.

Red Wings goalie Jimmy Howard skated out of his crease and threw punches as players gathered by the Detroit bench. Detroit’s Anthony Mantha (two goals and assist) completed the Gordie Howe hat trick by fighting Flames defenseman Travis Hamonic.

An official had to pull Mantha off Hamonic after both fell through the gate to the Red Wings bench. Mantha, Witkowski, Tkachuk and Hamonic all ended up with game misconducts.

Tkachuk also got a spearing major and the Red Wings scored twice on the power play to complete the rout.
