High School Team Earns Comeback Win with 3 Touchdowns in Final Minute:-A high school football team in Minneapolis trailed 27-10 with slightly over 60 seconds remaining.
It advanced to the state semifinals with a 29-27 victory.
Facing fourth down, Maple Grove commenced the comeback with a touchdown catch by senior Joe Raymon. After failing to convert the extra point, it recovered the ensuing onside kick with 57 ticks left on the clock.
Still facing seemingly insurmountable odds, Raymon struck again with a 49-yard touchdown on the next play. Although things were getting interesting, the Crimson still needed to recover another onside kick and score another touchdown in 46 seconds.
They once again secured possession of an onside kick tapped straight up the field. Raymon lunged with one hand to grab a pass in traffic that placed Maple Grove at the one-yard line with seven seconds remaining. Evan Hull capped off the thrilling comeback over Saint Michael-Albertville with a touchdown run.
“Just like we drew it up,” Maple Grove coach Matt Lombardi said to his team after the game, per Matt Steichen of the Star Tribune. “It just shows as bad as things might seem for you, you can never give up. You have to keep playing and hope things fall in your favor.”
Maple Grove will face the top-seeded Eden Prairie on Thursday for a spot in Minnesota’s state championship.
