Melania Trump Is Back on the Job
Melania Trump emerged for official state duty on Friday. She joined her husband, Donald Trump, in welcoming Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and his wife, Lucy, to the White House for lunch. It’s the First Couple’s first public-facing joint appearance of the year, and she came wearing armor in the form of a firm-looking military-style jacket.
She’s weathered two scandals this month and a few cases of raised eyebrows. First, Trump’s lawyer Michael Cohen confirmed he had paid porn star Stormy Daniels (née Stephanie Clifford) for her silence during the campaign regarding an alleged affair, and then The New Yorker published reports of an affair with former Playboy Playmate Karen McDougal. (The president has denied both stories.) This week, The New York Times reported that Melania Trump’s parents received green cards amid Trump’s fight against so-called “chain migration.” As always, there’s a lot going on.
But the lunch looked lovely, all four of them sitting around a bouquet of yellow roses in the Oval Office. Very intimate. No one was able to hang up on anyone else here.
