1 killed 4 injured in shootings on Sunday
A man was shot to death in South Austin and four other people were injured in unrelated shootings Sunday, officials said.
Authorities, in a media notification, said they were called to a report of a person shot about 8:30 p.m. in the 1000 block of North Lavergne Avenue in South Austin on the city’s West Side.
The man had gunshot wounds to his head and back and he was pronounced dead at the location, police said. No one had been arrested.
In other shootings:
- A man was standing in the Roseland neighborhood near the intersection of West 110th Street and South Emerald Avenue, about 3:15 p.m., according to police.
The 23-year-old man said he was standing on a porch as a gold-colored truck approached and someone from inside fired a gun at him, officials said. The man was shot in the right arm and he was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where he was listed in good condition, authorities said.
Investigators said the man who was shot is a gang member. Detectives continue to investigate. - About 1:15 p.m. Chicago police officers were called to the intersection of West 111th and South Halsted streets, where they found a man, 34, who had been shot in the right leg and a second man, 20, who had been shot in the right leg and left arm, police said.
Both of the men were taken to Roseland Community Hospital, where each of the men had his condition stabilized, officials said. Investigators believe the shooting may have been gang-related, officials said.
In an update to the notification, police wrote: “The victims were on foot outside when they heard shots coming from the alley and felt pain.” - Earlier, a man suffered a graze wound to his head while standing on the sidewalk in West Woodlawn on Sunday morning, police said.
About 11 a.m., the 55-year-old man was standing in the 400 block of East 63rd Street, according to Chicago police. After he was shot, he arrived at the University of Chicago Medical Center, but he later was transferred to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition, authorities said.
No arrests have been made and detectives continue to investigate, officials said.
