7 injured in truck crash in SF’s Richmond District
An elderly man sustained life-threatening injuries Monday afternoon when a delivery truck veered into a crosswalk at Geary Boulevard and 21st Avenue in San Francisco’s Richmond District, striking two pedestrians and a sedan with a family of five inside, police said.
Another elderly man was seriously injured, and the five occupants of the car were treated at the scene for minor injuries. Police didn’t release the victims’ names.
The truck was southbound on 21st Avenue when it entered the crosswalk around 3:30 p.m. and then swerved, striking the pedestrians and then the sedan, which struck a parked car, according to San Francisco police Sgt. John Bragagnolo.
The two seriously injured men, both pedestrians standing on the curb at the intersection, were hospitalized. Eastbound Geary Boulevard was closed to traffic for several hours after the crash.
Police were interviewing the truck driver and have not determined the cause of the crash.
