Survey Says: Putin Better Than Hillary And Trump
It’s a wash. Russian president Vladimir Putin beats both Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump in a popularity contest. Ask a Hillary voter who she hates more, the Donald or the man they believe cost her the election (along with Bernie, Comey and deplorable, angry white folks), and its Trump over Putin. But if you ask a Trump voter who t
ey prefer, Putin or Clinton, it’s Putin hands down, according to a survey released Monday by the Democracy Fund Voter Study Group.
In a comprehensive survey of voter attitudes of the new president six months in, the Voter Study Group found that the American public is no fan of Putin, regardless of political party affiliation. It is the Clinton voters that have the most animosity towards him, following the day-after-day news flow about how Russian sponsored ‘fake news’ and Russian hackers broke into emails. Wikileaks founder Julian Assange said he did not receive any emails from the Democratic National Committee and Hillary campaign chief John Podesta from a foreign state, or a foreign individual.
Trump voters have also had enough of Putin. What with months of being told the Russians picked their candidate, and not you, disdain for the Russian leader may have as much to do with headline fatigue as it does old Cold War attitudes towards the Kremlin. Almost no Clinton voters registered a favorable view of Putin. But close to 20% of Trump voters did.
In a poll conducted immediately after the election, some 35% of Trump voters had a favorable view of Putin.
The stand out here is that as much as Putin has been vilified, those surveyed say they dislike the opposing presidential candidate more than they dislike Putin. Both Clinton and Trump voters dislike the candidate they didn’t vote for more than they dislike Vlad. A whopping 97% of Clinton voters view Trump unfavorably, compared to 88% who said the same about Putin.
The numbers are identical for Trump voters. Some 97% of them view Clinton unfavorably, with a solid majority, 65%, feeling the same way about Putin.

The survey was conducted by YouGov. In total 8,000 voters took the online survey between November 29 and December 29, 2016. The Democracy Fund Voter Study Group is a new research collaboration of nearly two dozen analysts and scholars from across the political spectrum examining and delivering insights on the evolving
views of American voters.
Of the topics included in the research report, only two issues have seen a shift in opinion between December 2016 and July 2017. First, there was a 13-point increase in the percentage
of respondents who favored increasing trade with other nations, something that flies in the face of the Trump Administration’s protectionist rhetoric. And second, American support for a temporary visa ban from seven Muslim nations went up three points to 47%. Still, a slight majority disagree with the ban.
Moreover, there is more opposition than support for both repealing the Affordable Care Act, and for expanding the border fence to stop illegal immigration.

The survey has very little to do with Putin. It is an eye-opening take on American views of their culture, their country, and the establishment — be them elected officials or media personalities. Call them the “popular kids”, but judging by the survey findings, they are just as disliked as Putin.
