Allegiant announces $40M aircraft base in Indianapolis, more flights likely:- Ultra low-cost carrier Allegiant will establish a new base of operations at the Indianapolis International Airport, investing more than $40 million.
Allegiant Travel Company announced at a news conference Wednesday plans to establish a two-aircraft base for its Airbus jets at the Indianapolis airport. The move is expected to create 66 new jobs.
“That does mean more routes,” said Allegiant director of operations Hilarie Gray, without disclosing further details. “We are so proud of our partnerships not just in Indianapolis, but throughout the state of Indiana.”
Allegiant started services in Indianapolis in 2015 and has grown to 12 non-stop routes. Indianapolis will become the airline’s 14th aircraft base and will begin hiring flight attendants, pilots, mechanics and ground personnel to support new operations.
The company said the jobs will offer salaries well above the state’s average wage. Applications are available at the company’s official website.
The Indiana Economic Development Corporation offered Allegiant up to $1 million in conditional tax credits based on the company’s job plans. Until Indiana residents are hired, the company is not eligible to claim incentives.
Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch, who also attended the news conference, said Allegiant’s commitment to Indiana exemplifies the state’s ability to attract businesses for continued growth.
“In addition to creating new, high-wage jobs, Allegiant’s decision shows the airline’s commitment to future growth in Indiana, creating more direct flight opportunities and continuing to connect Indiana with the rest of the world,” she said.
