Wash. police officer shot responding to domestic violence call

Wash. police officer shot responding to domestic violence call:- A police spokeswoman says the officer who was shot while responding to a domestic violence call was in surgery at a Tacoma hospital.

In a news conference, police spokeswoman Loretta Cool told reporters that they believe the officer was shot by someone outside the police force, CBS affiliate KIRO reports.

Cool said Wednesday night that police responded to a Tacoma home and that shortly afterward, officers called for backup.

She says shots were fired and officers were able to get into the home to remove the officer, who had been shot several times.

Cool says police believe the suspect remains barricaded with a gun inside the home but says it’s possible the suspect could have left while police were removing the wounded officer from the scene.

She said the neighborhood was locked down while law enforcement worked to arrest the suspect.

KIRO talked to a man whose said his aunt was inside the home with the suspect during the standoff situation.

The man, Marcus Kroskey, told KIRO that the woman and the suspect were in a basement when shots were fired. A friend of the woman allegedly called 911 and police responded. Kroskey’s aunt was taken out of the house, and at some point an officer was injured.

KIRO confirmed that the incident started as a domestic violence call. Children were in the home early in the call.
