First look: Inside the revamped Disney Wonder

USA TODAY Cruise this week is among a handful of media outlets getting an early look at the revamped ship as it resumes sailings out of Galveston, Texas, and we’re posted our first shots here and at our Facebook page.
As can be seen in the photos, Disney’s second-oldest vessel was significantly transformed with new deck-top features, a new restaurant themed around Princess Tiana from the animated film The Princess and the Frog, and new children’s zones that includes a Marvel-themed area.
The changes to the 1,754-passenger ship included the removal of its iconic Mickey Pool, replaced by a new watery fun zone for kids.
Other notable updates to Wonder include a major reworking of its grand Lobby Atrium — a signature feature — and the complete re-theming of its adults-only entertainment zone. The adult area has a new English pub and a new nightclub.
The six-week makeover was on a similar scale to an overhaul in 2013 of Wonder’s sister ship, Disney Magic (scroll through the carousel at the bottom of this page for a look at the changes to that vessel). It took place at the Navantia shipyard in Cadiz, Spain.
Unveiled in 1998 and 1999, respectively, Magic and Wonder were Disney’s first two ships and are much-beloved by Disney fans. The company now has four vessels, with two more on order for delivery in 2021 and 2023.
