Chicago Cubs may visit White House before Obama leaves office and is replaced by Trump:- The Chicago Cubs can’t decide on whose White House they will be celebrating their World Series title in.
In light of Tuesday’s night shocking election results that left GOP nominee Donald Trump as president-elect, Theo Epstein, the team’s president of baseball operations who publicly donated and supported Hillary Clinton, said he is “still processing” the result.
President Obama, a South Side-native and noted White Sox fan, congratulated Chicago last week after they won Game 7 of the World Series, asking “Want to come to the White House before I leave?”
“I know after he tweeted that out – and that was well before the election – there was a lot of interest from our players in taking him up on that invitation,” Epstein said. “There was some momentum for it. So we’ll see. Nothing has been finalized. But we’ll see where it goes. It would be nice given his Chicago ties.”
Unlike Epstein, Cubs pitcher Jake Arrieta didn’t need time to process much.
The Ricketts family, who own the Cubs, have political ties, which Trump spoke about prior to election night.
In March, Trump said the Cubs were run poorly and called out the family for spending money on pro-Clinton ads.
“I’ll start taking ads telling them all what a rotten job they’re doing with the Chicago Cubs,” he said in March. “I mean, they are spending on me… I’ll start doing ads about their baseball team. That it’s not properly run or that they haven’t done a good job in the brokerage business lately.”
After those comments, the Ricketts switched sides and financially helped the GOP.
