Missing North Carolina 6-year-old found chained to tree; sex offender arrested for kidnapping : A convicted sex offender has been arrested on kidnapping charges after a missing North Carolina 6-year-old was found alive and chained to a tree.
Douglas Edwards, 46, was arrested near Wilmington Thursday, when Steffany Lenneth Lopez-Castro was discovered in the woods near her mobile home.
The little girl was chained to a tree, according to WNCN.
Lopez-Castro was the subject of a Wednesday night Amber Alert after she went missing, though New Hanover County Sheriff Ed McMahon said that she was doing well.
It was not immediately clear if she knew Edwards before the alleged abduction, which McMahon said was reported as Lopez-Castro being taken by a man on a moped.
He was convicted of a sexual offense against a 6-year-old in 1996 and served 16-years in prison, according to the North Carolina sex offender registry.
