OVERVIEW
I am pleased to announce that HRC-Las Vegas in association with the
Abundant Peace United Church of Christ will present "A Salute to Black
History". This will take place Friday, February 28, 2014-7:00pm at the
Cambridge Recreational Center, 3930 Cambridge Street, Las Vegas, Nevada
89119.
The Theme is entitled "Exploring the Diversity Among Us". It is incumbent
upon us to connect the dots in our historical graph and take our rich
heritage to the next level. The African-American culture has always been
full of diversity, much of by force, but nevertheless full and
ever-learning. While we are a people of enormous depth and mobility there
is still an underlying movement among us that negates change. The
expansion of our future depends on our ability to continue to thrive in
all aspects of life to include such themes as Illiteracy, Interracial
Relationships, Self-Identification, Women's Rights, Homophobia, and
Marriage Equality.
This year's Guest speaker is Anthony L. Johnson, Washington,DC. Mr.
Johnson is an experienced national security policy professional and
veteran leader with over 18 years of experience in the public and private
sectors. His expertise includes national security policy and strategy; US
military concept and doctrine development; identity-based conflict;
innovation and adaptation in special operations and of U.S. Special
Operations Forces.
In addition Tony has served as a civilian advisor to senior leaders at the
Department of Defense and worked on mission critical projects for
Department of Homeland Security, Defense Advanced Research Projects
Agency, and the Defense Science Board. He is a Distinguished Naval
Graduate of Norwich University; a graduate of the NATO Special Operations
Forces Training and Education Programme in Belgium; a Security Fellow with
the Truman National Security Project, an Aspen Institute Ideas Scholar,
and a former United States Naval Officer. Tony is a native of California.
He grew up in Las Vegas, Nevada and now lives in Washington,D.C. with his
husband Juan and their dog Tiger.
