Fashion/Culture showcases contemporary Colorado-based artists who use photography to explore the intersection between art, fashion, beauty, and culture. Artists in this exhibition explore themes such as: roles of gender and identity in reference to fashion, the affects of fashion in our culture and the ideals/ideas of beauty.
The exhibition consists of contemporary photography and site specific installation, as well as a selection of vintage photographs from the History Colorado archives, creating a dialog between past and present. The concept is not centered on commercial fashion photography, although it is one of the features in the exhibition, but rather about how fashion affects culture. This includes how different cultural groups appropriate fashion, how artists interpret it and how it reflects our identity.
