There are actors and entertainers in our industry who have changed our lives for better. It has been known for so long that our favorites inspire and motivate us to work hard in our lives. Some of them have taught us this through some of their amazing on screen roles which they have played. They have always made us proud for the work they had been doing since the very beginning. It has been a great while since they have been entertaining us and never disappointing us. Their struggle and the life is a source of inspiration for us to move forth and chase our dreams to fulfill them. We know one such woman or we know her as a wonder woman named Lynda Carter. She is a beautiful actress who has touched lives of many by her work. She is an amazing singer and a songwriter as well who was crowned as Miss World America in 1972. 

Lynda Carter Early Life and Academy Specifics | First Ever Television Debut | First Performance



Lynda Carter was born on the 24th of July in the year 1951 in Phoenix, Arizona, United States. Her parents namely Juanita and Colby Carter named her as Linda Jean Córdova Carter. His father was of English and Scottish-Irish decent. Her maternal family was in Mexico and her mother was of Mexican, Spanish and French ancestry. When she was just five years old she made her first ever television debut with her appearance on Lew King’s Talent Show. When she was in high school she had also performed in a band named Just Us, which constituted of a marimba, a congo drum, an acoustic guitar, and a stand-up bass played by another girl. When she grew up to be 16, she joined her cousin brother in another band named The Relative. In that band, the head drummer was Gary Burghoff. The group had opened in Sarah Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas for three months. As Lynda Carter was below the age group of 21, so she had to enter the premises through the kitchen. She had enrolled herself in the Arizona State University. She was voted as the Most Talented girl and then she dropped out from the college so she could pursue her career in music. In 1970, Carter sang with The Garfin Gathering. They had their first performance in San Francisco Hotel. Consequently, they played mostly to the janitors and hotel guests who parked their cars in the underground garage. Then she returned to Arizona in 1972.

It was in the year 1972 when Lynda Carter won a local Arizona beauty contest and then she gained national recognition when she won the title of Miss World America in 1972. In an international pageant in 1972, Lynda Carter represented the United States and had reached the semi finals. She started taking acting classes in New York acting schools. She made her first television acting appearance in an episode of the 1974 police drama Nakia entitled Roots of Anger. Then she began making appearances on several other TV shows like Starsky and Hutch and Cos. She had appeared in several B movies as well. 


In the year 1941 DC Comics had introduced us to a super heroine named wonder woman which was a character created by the American psychologist and writer William Moulton Marston and artist Harry G. Peter. After hearing about the popularity of Superman the character of Diana Prince/ Wonder woman was also referred to by such names as the Amazing Amazon, the Spirit of Truth, Themyscira's Champion, and the Goddess of Love and War. This character was gaining popularity every day and had been gaining a lot of recognition for 76 years now. Carter’s career got a beat when she landed the role of Wonder Woman and her secret identity of Diana Prince. Before Lynda Carter got cast for the role she had exhausted all the savings she had earned and saved from her prior music achievements and she decided to return back to Arizona, but then her manager calls her that Joanna Cassidy had lost the part to Carter. She got the role and this was considered as one of her greatest performance which was able to convince the fans and critics as well that she was actually capable of making wonders. She was closely being identified with wonder woman by now. 


The series had lasted for three seasons on the ABC network and then later on CBS from 1975-1979. The 1970’s was also remembered as the age of Wonder woman with tons of fan pictures and videos still being on the internet. In an interview with her in the year 2017, she explained her perspective behind portraying the role of wonder woman. She said that the producers had warned her and said that it can turn into a curse for her as the women all over the world are going to be jealous of her and then she said that it won’t happen and she added I want women to want to be me, or be my best friend!” As Carter describes Wonder Woman, "There is something about the character were in your creative mind for that time in your life where you pretended to be her, or whatever the situation was, that it felt like you could fly". In the year 1985, Lynda Carter was amongst one of the honorees of the company on their fiftieth-anniversary publication named Fifty who made DC great, and she was there because of her work of Wonder woman. In 2007, toy company DC Direct released a 13-inch full-figure statue of Lynda Carter as Wonder Woman, limited to 5,000 pieces; it was re-released in 2010. 


In the year of 1978, Lynda Carter was voted "The Most Beautiful Woman in the World" by the International Academy of Beauty and the British Press Organization. In 1977 she had also signed a modeling contract with one of the most successful beauty brand named Maybelline. In 1979 she had also appeared with Don Rickles in the promotional commercial of Diet 7up. Lynda Carter had also recorded an album in the late 70s and named it as Portrait. She had made several guest appearances at that time in many shows. She had also sung two of the songs of her own Wonder woman series in the episode Amazon Hot Wax. In 1979 she was to appear in Apocalypse Now in the role of playboy playmate, but somehow due to unavoidable circumstances, the shooting was interrupted. She had also made a guest appearance on The Muppet Show. Some of her other film credits include acting in the biopic of Rita Hayworth which was titles as Rita Hayworth: The Love Goddess. She has done a variety of her own musical TV specials some of which were: Lynda Carter's Special (1980), Encore! (1980), Celebration (1981), Street Life (1982), and Body and Soul (1984). In 1984, she got to play a major part as wonder woman in a TV crime drama named Partners in Crime. In 2000, Carter hosted the I Love 1978 episode of BBC2's I Love the '70s. Carter made her first appearance in a major feature film in a number of years in the big-screen remake of The Dukes of Hazzard in the year 2005, also directed by Chandrasekhar. In 2005, we also saw her acting in the Disney film titled Sky High, in a role of Principal Powers who was a headmistress of the school for superheroes. In 2007 Carter returned to the DC Comics' television world in the Smallville episode named Progeny, playing Chloe Sullivan's Kryptonite-empowered mother. 


In the year 2005, Lynda Carter had also played the role of Mama Morton in West End London Production of Chicago. In 2015, she wrote and performed 4 original songs of the video game Fallout 4. On October 21, 2016, the 75th anniversary of the first appearance of Wonder Woman, that character was designated by the United Nations as its Honorary Ambassador for the Empowerment of Women and Girls. In the year 2017, she was seen on the 2nd season of CW’s Supergirl in the role of President Olivia Marsden, she then rejoined her DC comic’s family. 

Her Personal Life and Relationship


Lynda Carter got married to her talent agent Ron Samuels in 1977; their marriage did not last very long and ended up in divorce in 1982. In the year 1984, she married Robert A. Altman who was an attorney in Washington D.C. she had left Hollywood for while in 1985, and she took this decision to join her husband in Washington DC. They had two children- James born in January 1988 and Jessica who was born in 1990. They lived together as a family in Potomac in Maryland in the house they built in 1987. The 20,000 square foot Georgian-style mansion was profiled in the premiere issue of Closer magazine in November 2013, as well as on HGTV. 


In the year 1993, Altman was summoned by the court for a jury trial for stemming from his involvement with the Bank of Credit and Commerce International and its secret acquisition of First American Bank shares Inc., but then he was acquitted and cleared off from the blame soon. Carter supported him all through the procedures and she was all over the media seen with wrapping her arms around him saying Not Guilty! In the year 2003, she had told the media about the mother is suffering from irritable bowel syndrome from past 30 years and that is why she was touring the country being an advocate and spokesperson. Lynda is also a staunch advocate and supporter of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Pro-Choice rights for women and legal equality for LGBT people. In 2001, Lynda Carter was also the Grand Marshall in Phoenix pride Parade. In 2008, in an interview with People Magazine, she stated that she had been attending trials and treatment in the rehabilitation clinic for her alcoholism and now she has been sober for 10 years. Carter has learned a lot in the course of her life and had always explained that the best measure of a human being is "how we treat the people who love us and the people that we love".
