Dee Bradley Baker Biography

Dee Bradley Baker (born August 31, 1962) is an American actor who provides voices for a number of popular cartoon characters, including Klaus Heissler in American Dad!, Waddles in Gravity Falls and Perry the Platypus in Phineas and Ferb. He was the announcer and the talking idol statue Olmec for the Legends of the Hidden Temple kids show, and a co-host of the Shop 'til You Drop game show. He would later voice characters such as Nightcrawler in X-Men: Legends and Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, Numbuh 4 in Codename: Kids Next Door, Dad in Cow and Chicken, Cinnamon Bun in Adventure Time, Appa and Momo in Avatar: The Last Airbender and Tarrlok, Naga and Pabu in The Legend of Korra and Captain Rex and the Clone Troopers in Star Wars: The Clone Wars. His voice-work also includes Batman: Arkham City, the Ben 10 franchise, Teen Titans, Halo, Gears of War, Pierre Parrot in Talking Friends, Portal 2, Dota 2 and Left 4 Dead 2.

Early life and education

Baker was born in Bloomington, Indiana, and grew up in Greeley, Colorado. He started performing at age nine and steadily worked in musicals, operas, plays, and stand-up. He graduated from University High School, and received a Boettcher Scholarship.He attended Colorado College in Colorado Springs, where he studied philosophy, biology, fine arts, and German, the last of which he spent time as an exchange student at the University of Goettingen. He was involved in local theater productions and singing groups. After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy, he was involved in many community theatre projects, including a sketch movie that aired on local public television.

Career

Baker moved to Orlando in 1989 to work on an improv sketch comedy show for Disney at the Epcot Center and various projects for Disney and Universal Studios.His first major television experience was on the Nickelodeon game show Legends of the Hidden Temple, where he was not only the announcer, but also the giant talking rock-god Olmec.He portrayed Olmec with a "big, booming, loud, god-like voice", and during parts of the show, he would narrate a legend and then ask the kid contestants related trivia questions. The show lasted three seasons and 120 episodes. When host Kirk Fogg moved to Los Angeles, he was encouraged to move there as well.

Baker moved to Southern California in time for the 1994 Northridge earthquake. He got involved in voice-over work, with his first major character as Cow & Chicken's dad in the Cow & Chicken and I.M. Weasel cartoons.His first feature film voice-over was on the basketball/Looney Tunes-themed movie Space Jam where he voiced Daffy Duck and Taz.He did voice work for various episodic cartoon characters on The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest, Johnny Bravo, and The Powerpuff Girls. He voiced starring characters Og in Mike, Lu, and Og and Bagheera in the second season of Jungle Cubs. On The Wild Thornberries, he voiced an assortment of animal characters, which would become one of his specialties. On the live-action front, he became the co-host and announcer for a game show called Shop 'til You Drop which spanned several hundred episodes when it resumed broadcasting on the Pax television network. He also had a recurring role as Phil Berg in the Nickelodeon sitcom series The Journey of Allen Strange where he plays a crazed journalist who tries to expose Allen's identity as a space alien.

He is known for his roles Appa, Momo and various other voices in the series Avatar: The Last Airbender, and as Naga, Pabu, Oogi, and council member Tarrlok for the sequel series The Legend of Korra, the Clone Troopers in the TV series Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Otto the Odd in Loonatics Unleashed, all of Ben's aliens in Ben 10: Alien Force, Ben 10: Ultimate Alien and Ben 10: Omniverse, Klaus Heissler and Kisses in American Dad, Sanjay, Binky and numerous other characters in Fairly Oddparents, Turner in Handy Manny, Ace Palmero and Johnny Hitswell in The Replacements, Perry the Platypus in Phineas and Ferb, Dr. Curt Conners "The Lizard" in The Spectacular Spider-Man, Nightcrawler in the video game X-Men Legends, Numbuh 4 in Codename: Kids Next Door and Pierre Parrot in Talking Friends.

Personal life

Baker met Michelle in Colorado when they were doing children's theatre at the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center. They married in 1990, and have two daughters, Josie and Cora. They live in the Los Angeles area.
