Another 28 percent wanted to remain, and the remaining 28 percent said they did not know.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 14pt;color: #000000\">Trump, who has long criticized the 2015 agreement for not being tough enough on Iran, announced that he was terminating America\u2019s involvement and would impose the \u201chighest level\u201d of economic sanctions against the country.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 14pt;color: #000000\">According to the poll, 54 percent of Americans said they \u201cstrongly\u201d or \u201csomewhat\u201d supported the Iran nuclear agreement while 27 percent said they were \u201cstrongly\u201d or \u201csomewhat\u201d opposed to it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 14pt;color: #000000\">Many Americans also appeared to be concerned about what would happen if Trump pulled the United States out of the deal.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 14pt;color: #000000\">Nearly two out of three adults said that if the United States ended its agreement, Iran would likely announce that it was developing nuclear weapons. About half said they thought it would be likely that the United States and Iran \u201cwill enter into armed conflict.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 14pt;color: #000000\">The Reuters\/Ipsos poll was conducted online in English throughout the United States. It gathered responses from 1,277 adults, including 492 registered Republicans.
