Steelers rookie Mason Rudolph has no issue with Ben Roethlisberger’s comments<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n

Pittsburgh Steelers draft pick Mason Rudolph took no issue with Ben Roethlisberger’s comments about him in a radio interview last week, explaining on NFL Network on Saturday that he “would probably say the same thing” if he were in Roethlisberger’s position.<\/span><\/p>\n

“He’s a competitor. Obviously, he has a lot of confidence in himself, like I do,” Rudolph said of Roethlisberger. “He’s going to be a future Hall of Famer. I would expect him to say that.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Roethlisberger said in a radio appearance on 93.7 The Fan in Pittsburgh that he was “a little surprised” the Steelers drafted Rudolph in the third round and that he doesn’t expect Rudolph to see the field for a while, given his desire to continue playing. The Steelers quarterback said he thought there were other players on the board who could have helped them win immediately.<\/span><\/p>\n

“Nothing against Mason; I think he’s a great football player,” Roethlisberger said. “I don’t know him personally, but I’m sure he’s a great kid. I just don’t know how backing up or being a third (string) \u2014 well, who knows where he’s going to fall on the depth chart \u2014 helps us win now.”<\/span><\/p>\n

\nRoethlisberger turned 36 this spring and has previously expressed public uncertainty about his future. After the 2016 season, he said he would “consider all options” before ultimately choosing to return to the NFL. Last season, he wondered if “maybe I don’t have it anymore” in a postgame press conference after a loss.<\/span><\/p>\n

Rudolph, for his part, said he’s happy to learn from Roethlisberger and willing to wait for his opportunity.<\/span><\/p>\n

“I’m just looking forward to going in there, learning the system, competing and raising my level of play,” Rudolph said on NFL Network. “(I’ll) prepare like I’m the starter even though I obviously won’t be to start. Just waiting and being prepared for whenever my time comes, to be ready and take advantage of it.”<\/span><\/p>\n
