Let&#8217;s see how he carries himself out here,&#8221; said DeGeneres.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 14pt;color: #000000\">In walked Wade, much to the surprise of Shaw.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 14pt;color: #000000\">After pleasantries were exchanged and the audience quieted down, Wade shared a message with Shaw.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 14pt;color: #000000\">&#8220;I know you don&#8217;t want be called a hero, but I look at you as an American hero,&#8221; Wade, who also presented Shaw with a check for $20,000, said. &#8221; &#8230; When I sit down with my kids, and I sit down and talk to them about role models, who I want them to look up to, I&#8217;d tell them to go look up James Shaw Jr.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 14pt;color: #000000\">Wade, a future Hall of Famer and one of the most respected figures in basketball, is nominated for the seasonlong NBA Cares Community Assist Award for his role in providing support to the Parkland, Fla. community following the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in February.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 14pt;color: #000000\">Wade visited the school in March and spoke to many of the students, saying, &#8220;As someone out here in the public eye, I&#8217;m proud to say I&#8217;m from this state because of you guys, because of the future of this world because of you guys.
