Falling under the general banner of \u201cMaterial Design 2,\u201d that possible \u201crefresh\u201d is now live in the latest version of Chrome Canary for Windows.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 14pt;color: #000000\">After enabling the corresponding experimental flag and restarting, users will notice that the browser\u2019s top chrome has been refreshed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 14pt;color: #000000\">Against the dark gray background, tabs lose their current slanted and sharp appearance for a very rounded and bulbous look that\u2019s inline with Google\u2019s current move to more rounded UI elements.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 14pt;color: #000000\">This is further evidenced by the rounded Omnibar, with the address bar design already in testing on Android. Hovering over the \u2018Secure\u2019 lock reveals an equally pill-shaped button. This along with the rounded Omnibar reflects similar work in the Google app and other services like Search.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 14pt;color: #000000\">Lastly, the account avatar icon has been moved to the toolbar just next to the address bar. So far, this is the extent of the \u201crefresh,\u201d with many other interface elements are unchanged as Google works to update everything to match the new direction.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 14pt;color: #000000\">This flag and new design is currently available in Chrome Canary (version 68) for Windows, and not the Mac counterpart. Once installed, visit the following flag and enable the \u201crefresh\u201d option from the dropdown:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 14pt;color: #000000\">A look at the updated Material Design spec on Chromium (spotted by Owen on Twitter) refers to the current iteration of Chrome\u2019s design as \u201cM1\u201d and the likely new one as \u201cGM2.\u201d The document notes that toolbar iconography does not change between the two versions, but the corner radius on highlight buttons do.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 14pt;color: #000000\">However, unlike the one for Secure that we spotted above, it remains a rounded square but with more of a curvature. There are also guidelines about spacing and co<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 14pt;color: #000000\">Ultimately, it\u2019s unclear whether this is the \u201cMD2\u201d refresh previously hinted at by a Googler earlier this year or if that\u2019s even the final name for the initiative, much less the public-facing one. In Chromium, this project is officially named \u201cMdRefresh\u201d with no number appended to it.
