LeBron James devastated upon learning of Erin Popovich’s passing<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n

LeBron James was shaken by the news that the wife of San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich, Erin Popovich, died on Wednesday.<\/span><\/p>\n

On the court after Cleveland defeated Indiana in Game 2, TNT reporter Allie LaForce asked James to share his thoughts on her passing \u2014 a question James later said she prepared him for.<\/span><\/p>\n

An emotional James, who appreciates Popovich and vice versa, paused for a second, fighting back tears.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cObviously, I\u2019m a huge Pop fan. I love Pop,\u201d James said. \u201cThat\u2019s such a tragedy. My best wishes goes out to Pop and his family. That\u2019s devastating news. It\u2019s a lot. The NBA family, we all stick together. I know we compete every night, but when something like this happens it puts everything in perspective. I send my well wishes and my prayers up to the heavens above. I know the man above never makes a mistake even when you sometimes have to ask why. That\u2019s just terrible news. Best of luck to Pop everybody in San Antonio, the whole Spurs family. That\u2019s all I can say.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Throughout the year, James and Popovich have expressed their admiration of each other, and if James decides to play for the U.S. at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, it will be because Popovich is the coach, and it will give James the opportunity to play for a man he respects.<\/span><\/p>\n

When Fox News commentator Laura Ingraham said James should just \u201cshut up and dribble\u201d after James criticized President Trump, Popovich defended James.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThink about when he came into the public view. How young was he? And to this day he hasn’t missed a step,\u201d Popovich told reporters. \u201cHe hasn’t fallen off the ledge. He’s been a brilliant example for millions of kids, especially of kids of lesser opportunity who haven’t had the same advantages of others. And they see in this guy somebody who’s consistently exhibited excellence in the workplace. It gives them a voice, let’s them know that you can speak about anything. \u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhen you look at this guy, how many tens of millions of dollars he’s given? Tens of millions of kids that see him, that are inspired by him. It’s kind of like the Black Panther movie. How cool is that for kids to see that and have that superhero? Well, now, LeBron has been that for a long time. And for somebody to be totally numb to that and attack him in such a childish way, really speaks more volumes about that individual than it does Lebron. He’s very, very special. We should all be very proud that we have somebody like that who’s willing to speak about a variety of topics, and you’ve listened to them all.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

When James learned of Popovich\u2019s comments, he said, \u201cYou guys know how much I love Pop. \u2026 Pop is definitely one of my all-time favorite people that I\u2019ve ever crossed paths with in my life.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
