{"id":61013,"date":"2018-03-21T04:46:36","date_gmt":"2018-03-21T04:46:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.biphoo.com\/bipnews\/?p=61013"},"modified":"2018-03-21T04:46:36","modified_gmt":"2018-03-21T04:46:36","slug":"fox-news-analyst-quits-calling-network-a-propaganda-machine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.biphoo.com\/bipnews\/news\/fox-news-analyst-quits-calling-network-a-propaganda-machine.html","title":{"rendered":"Fox News Analyst Quits Calling Network a Propaganda Machine"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 18pt\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">Fox News Analyst Quits Calling Network a Propaganda Machine<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 14pt;color: #000000\">A longtime analyst for Fox News is leaving the network, saying that he could not \u201cin good conscience\u201d remain with an organization that, he argued, \u201cis now wittingly harming our system of government for profit.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 14pt;color: #000000\">In a searing farewell note sent to colleagues on Tuesday, Ralph Peters, a Fox News strategic analyst and a retired lieutenant colonel in the United States Army, castigated the network for its coverage of President Trump and the rhetoric of its prime-time hosts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 14pt;color: #000000\">\u201cIn my view, Fox has degenerated from providing a legitimate and much-needed outlet for conservative voices to a mere propaganda machine for a destructive and ethically ruinous administration,\u201d Colonel Peters wrote in his message, a copy of which was obtained by The New York Times.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 14pt;color: #000000\">\u201cOver my decade with Fox, I long was proud of the association,\u201d he added. \u201cNow I am ashamed.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 14pt;color: #000000\">Without citing them by name, Colonel Peters, 65, wrote that Fox News\u2019s prime-time anchors \u201cdismiss facts and empirical reality to launch profoundly dishonest assaults on the F.B.I., the Justice Department, the courts, the intelligence community (in which I served) and, not least, a model public servant and genuine war hero such as Robert Mueller.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 14pt;color: #000000\">\u201cI cannot be part of the same organization, even at a remove,\u201d he wrote.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 14pt;color: #000000\">Fox News responded on Tuesday by saying it was \u201cextremely proud of our top-rated prime-time hosts and all of our opinion programming.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 14pt;color: #000000\">\u201cRalph Peters is entitled to his opinion despite the fact that he\u2019s choosing to use it as a weapon in order to gain attention,\u201d the network said in a statement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 14pt;color: #000000\">Colonel Peters, who appeared regularly on Fox News and the Fox Business Network \u2014 including as recently as Monday morning \u2014 spent more than two decades in the Army, eventually specializing in Russian intelligence. He began appearing as a television commentator in the late 1990s, and signed an exclusive contract with Fox in 2008.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 14pt;color: #000000\">Typically hawkish in his views, Colonel Peters supported the invasion of Iraq in 2003 and was a strong proponent of confronting President Vladimir Putin of Russia. He was a fervent critic of former President Barack Obama, deriding his foreign policy as weak, and was briefly suspended by the network in 2015 after using a vulgarity to describe Mr. Obama during an appearance on Fox Business.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 14pt;color: #000000\">In an email interview on Tuesday, Colonel Peters wrote that his letter had been \u201cintended for internal consumption,\u201d adding: \u201cI am not trying to grandstand. Fox was good to me for many years.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 14pt;color: #000000\">He said he informed Fox News on March 1 that he did not plan to renew his contract, which expires toward the end of this month.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 14pt;color: #000000\">\u201cAs a retired military officer,\u201d he said, \u201cI simply could not continue with Fox in good conscience.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 14pt;color: #000000\">Fox News\u2019s commentary shows, like \u201cHannity\u201d and \u201cFox &amp; Friends,\u201d have become stalwart defenders of Mr. Trump and his administration, often criticizing Mr. Mueller, the special counsel, and law enforcement agencies that have been investigating possible ties between the president\u2019s associates and Russian interference into the 2016 election.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 14pt;color: #000000\">Fox News remains the No. 1 cable news network despite recent changes in its prime-time lineup.
