Defcon Warning System at SAFEST LEVEL but experts warn North Korea ‘simply buying time’<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

THE Defcon Warning System has issued a cautious update continuing its safest level status despite experts warning North Korea is simply buying time to repair its nuclear testing site.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Defcon Warning System, a private intelligence organisation monitoring nuclear threats against the USA, remains at level five \u2013 the lowest possible, according to an update released on Thursday at 7pm PDT (Friday 3am GMT).<\/span><\/p>\n

It comes despite Vladimir Putin\u2019s announcement yesterday that Russia had developed a terrifying array of nuclear weapons that can reach anywhere in the world and are \u201cinvulnerable to enemy interception\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

Analysts for Defcon also considered the North Korea\u2019s alleged \u201colive branch\u201d during last month\u2019s Winter Olympics as experts fear Kim Jong-un\u2019s engineers were simply using the time to continue repairs on the nation\u2019s nuclear testing site which suffer significant damage in November 2017.<\/span><\/p>\n

While there are \u201ccurrently no imminent nuclear threats against the United States\u201d the warning system appears to be cautiously optimistic.<\/span><\/p>\n

A statement from the Defcon Warning System added: \u201cMost analysts believe that this pause is temporary and that North Korea is simply using the time to continue repairs to their nuclear testing site.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt is believed that North Korea is continuing to make progress with long range missiles and will continue its nuclear work.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cNevertheless, North Korea has invited South Korea for a summit in North Korea and the United States now says ready for talks \u2014 if not negotiations \u2014 with North Korea.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The intelligence organisation has also been monitoring China after Beijing boasted that it had successfully carried out a land-based mid-course missile interception test and deployed its J-20 stealth fighter into combat service.<\/span><\/p>\n

Referencing Russia\u2019s new super nuclear weapons the Defon Warning System said: \u201cRussia has just announced a hypersonic missile which it claims cannot be intercepted and can carry a nuclear payload to anywhere in the world.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe DEFCON Warning System notes that Russia has a history of making exaggerated or false claims in an effort to make an enemy believe Russia\u2019s military is more formidable than it really is, and there are concerns that Russia has made such an announcement without any visible testing.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAt this time, The DEFCON Warning System is unsure of the validity of Russia\u2019s recent claim and is continuing to investigate.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

However another expert warned that Mr Putin\u2019s announcement marks \u201ca new arms race that will put us under the terror of a new Cold War\u201d as Russia, North Korea, China and the US \u2013 all participants in the last Cold War \u2013 continue to build up their military arsenal.<\/span><\/p>\n

Beatrice Fihn, executive director of International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN) said: “Putin’s statement makes it clear we are in a new arms race that will put us under the terror of a new Cold War, in constant fear of death at any instant.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhile Russia and the US compare the size of their arsenals, the rest of the world is joining a treaty that bans them.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Mr Putin\u2019s during his speech to the Russian Federal Assembly on Thursday boasted Moscow had developed missiles that no other nation possesses.<\/span><\/p>\n

And in a thinly veiled threat to the West, the Russian President said: “Russia remained a nuclear power, but no one wanted to listen to us. Listen to us now.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Mr Putin\u2019s remarks were later echoed by Russia\u2019s defence minister Sergey Shoygu who further accused NATO countries of trying to drag Moscow into a new arms race.<\/span><\/p>\n
