Team World routs Team USA in Rising Stars Challenge<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

One-hundred and eight international players \u2014 from a record 42 countries and territories \u2014 were on opening-night rosters for the 2017-18 NBA season.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ten of those players lit up Staples Center on Friday night for Team World in the league’s annual Rising Stars Challenge, routing Team USA 155-124.<\/span><\/p>\n

They sank 64 of their 109 shot attempts (58.7%) and hit 23 three-pointers, a Rising Stars record.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sacramento Kings wing Bogdan Bogdanovic, a 25-year-old rookie from Serbia and the game’s oldest player, won MVP with 26 points and seven threes (on 13 attempts).<\/span><\/p>\n

Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid, the best player on the floor and the only one from this group of first- and second-year players who will suit up in Sunday’s All-Star Game, saw just nine minutes and scored five points. And it didn’t matter in the slightest.<\/span><\/p>\n

The defense was limited, as is so often the case during showcases like this. But the depth of Team World’s roster was on full display \u2014 a testament to the role international players will have in the NBA for years to come.<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition to Embiid, a handful of Team World \u2014 Ben Simmons (11 points, 13 assists), Dario Saric (18 points), Lauri Markkanen (15 points) and Jamal Murray (21 points) \u2014 have the potential to be stars, if not superstars, as their games continue to grow. Their average age? 21.4 years old.<\/span><\/p>\n

“I think the future is in good hands with the players that are coming through now,” Simmons said. “Great, young talent on both teams tonight. I think our objective was to really win and come out and dominate them, which was fun at the same time.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Team USA was littered with future stars of its own. Boston Celtics guard Jaylen Brown led all scorers with 35 points and capped off the night with a between-the-legs dunk. Kyle Kuzma, playing in his home arena, added 20, and Brown’s teammate, Jayson Tatum, scored 15.<\/span><\/p>\n
