{"id":58033,"date":"2018-02-05T05:38:16","date_gmt":"2018-02-05T05:38:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.biphoo.com\/bipnews\/?p=58033"},"modified":"2018-02-05T05:38:16","modified_gmt":"2018-02-05T05:38:16","slug":"state-trooper-killed-off-duty-crash","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.biphoo.com\/bipnews\/news\/state-trooper-killed-off-duty-crash.html","title":{"rendered":"State Trooper Killed In Off-Duty Crash"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 18pt;color: #000000\"><strong>State Trooper Killed In Off-Duty Crash<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 14pt;color: #000000\">A Connecticut state trooper was killed in a head-on collision Saturday night while driving off-duty in Wolcott, officials said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 14pt;color: #000000\">The deceased trooper is Danielle Miller of Litchfield\u2019s Troop L, according to Dora Schriro, commissioner of the state\u2019s Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 14pt;color: #000000\">Just before 9 p.m. Saturday, Wolcott police responded to a head-on crash on Wolcott Street involving a 2004 Ford pickup and a state police Crown Victoria cruiser driven by an off-duty trooper, later identified as Miller.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 14pt;color: #000000\">The driver of the pickup was identified as Aric Rivkin, 30, of Wolcott. Rivkin sustained non-life threatening injuries and was treated and released early Sunday morning.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 14pt;color: #000000\">There were no passengers in either of the cars, and both drivers were taken to local hospitals with injuries, according to Wolcott police.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 14pt;color: #000000\">On Sunday morning, Schriro identified the trooper involved in the crash as Miller, and said she had succumbed to her injuries.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 14pt;color: #000000\">Miller graduated from the State Police Academy in 2014 as a member of its 124th training troop.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 14pt;color: #000000\">\u201cWe are grateful for her dedicated service to the Connecticut State Police and the residents of Connecticut,\u201d Schriro said in a statement, \u201cand our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends during this difficult time.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 14pt;color: #000000\">A team of police officers from Wolcott, Cheshire, Middlebury, Naugatuck and Watertown are investigating the crash, according to Lt.
