We offer our deepest condolences to the families and friends of those who were killed and wish for the speedy recovery of those wounded,\u201d State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert said in a statement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">Glenn Selig, a spokesman for Trump campaign adviser Rick Gates, was among the Americans who were killed, CNN reported, citing a statement by Selig\u2019s company, Selig Multimedia. The company did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Reuters.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">Selig represented Gates, who has been charged in Special Counsel Robert Mueller\u2019s investigation of alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 U.S. election and possible collusion with President Donald Trump\u2019s campaign.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">\u201cGlenn was in Kabul on a potential success story involving Afghanistan and its steps to battle extremism. The focus was highlighting the country\u2019s new president and constructing a democracy forum event for Afghani women,\u201d Selig Multimedia said in a statement, according to CNN.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">At least 20 people were killed when five gunman dressed in Afghan army uniforms stormed the Kabul hotel on Saturday night.
