iPhone X2 release date, news and rumours \u2013 is the \u2018ugly\u2019 notch finally set to disappear?<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

APPLE could improve the iPhone X’s most-hated feature with the rumoured iPhone X2 in 2018.<\/span><\/p>\n

The dreaded “notch” that juts out at the top of the new phone’s screen could shrink, according to industry insiders.<\/span><\/p>\n

Last year, Apple showed off the new iPhone X, a revolutionary smartphone with a completely revamped design.<\/span><\/p>\n

The big change was the introduction of an all-screen front, which proved popular with users.<\/span><\/p>\n

But Apple was forced to include a small “notch” at the top of the screen to house the camera and Face ID facial recognition sensors.<\/span><\/p>\n

Fortunately, a new report from South Korea’s ET News says key Apple suppliers believe the new iPhone have a smaller notch.<\/span><\/p>\n

The report \u2013 which we can’t verify \u2013 says that Apple is “looking into combination of a face-recognition module with a camera module”.<\/span><\/p>\n

The idea is that by pairing the Face ID system \u2013 which lets you unlock the phone with your face \u2013 with the existing selfie camera, Apple could save space.<\/span><\/p>\n

If that happens, Apple can then shrink the notch so that more of the next iPhone’s front is filled with screen.<\/span><\/p>\n

It will be great news for some Apple fans, many of whom still slate the notch as “ugly”.<\/span><\/p>\n

One Twitter user wrote: “iPhone X screenshots are so ugly because of that notch at the top.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Another said: “Girl in front of me has an iPhone X. That notch\/bump was a dead give-away. It’s still ugly.”<\/span><\/p>\n

A disappointed iPhone X owner said: “Months into having the iPhone X and no, I’m still not used to the dumb*ss ugly POS black notch at the top.”<\/span><\/p>\n

But notch or no notch, it seems Apple’s Face ID feature isn’t going anywhere.<\/span><\/p>\n

Speaking to The Sun, GBH Insights’ Daniel Ives said: “Facial recognition is a potential silver bullet innovation area that will play a centre-stage role in the next few iPhone models.”<\/span><\/p>\n

The analyst went on: “It’s a clear selling point around iPhone X and Apple knows the next stages of innovation will be on the software and ‘under the hood’ rather than the design itself coming off a transformational design change on the iPhone X.”<\/span><\/p>\n

He also admitted that Apple combining face ID with a camera was likely, saying “we expect more integration into cameras over 2018\/2018”.<\/span><\/p>\n

Apple hasn’t announced the iPhone X2 or confirmed plans for a new iPhone, but we’d expect the company to announce a new smartphone in September this year.<\/span><\/p>\n
