How to Replace Your iPhone 6 Plus Battery Without Apple’s Help<\/span><\/h2>\n

If you\u2019re still using an iPhone 6 Plus, chances are your battery life is pretty terrible. The lithium batteries that power almost all our technology wear down over time, leaving most people with three options: replace the battery, buy a new device, or suffer.<\/span><\/p>\n

Apple\u2019s Offering Cheap iPhone Battery Replacements<\/span><\/p>\n

The good news is that Apple is offering discounted iPhone battery replacements this year for just $29\u2014sure, it might be because of some bad PR, but it\u2019s still great for anyone with an old phone. The bad news, however, is that if have an iPhone 6 Plus you\u2019ll have to wait a few extra months for your new battery.<\/span><\/p>\n

MacRumors reports that Apple won\u2019t have any iPhone 6 Plus batteries in stock until late March or early April. The news comes from a leaked internal document, but it\u2019s also supported by several iPhone owners who were told the same thing by Apple.<\/span><\/p>\n

If you can wait a little longer that\u2019s fine, but if you\u2019re feeling impatient (or your iPhone battery can\u2019t hold on that long) you have other options.<\/span><\/p>\n

Replace Your iPhone Battery On Your Own<\/span><\/p>\n

Apple doesn\u2019t exactly make it easy to tinker around inside its devices, but it\u2019s not impossible. iFixit has a great guide to replacing the iPhone 6 Plus battery, which it says is only moderately difficult and should take about 15-45 minutes.<\/span><\/p>\n

You\u2019ll need a new battery (of course), which you can buy from iFixit for $25, along with adhesive strips ($4) and a connector bracket ($10). You\u2019ll also need a few basic tools, plus a special pentalobe screwdriver required to open Apple products.<\/span><\/p>\n

The actual repair process involves prying off the display with a suction cup and carefully removing the old battery so you can swap in a new one. Just make sure you power the device down to 25% or less before you start, or you could cause a fire and injure yourself.<\/span><\/p>\n

If you don\u2019t have any tools on hand, you might want to consider an all-in-one replacement kit. This one from Yontex includes the battery, pentalobe screwdriver, adhesive and more. All for just $26.<\/span><\/p>\n

Can\u2019t Someone Else Do It?<\/span><\/p>\n

If you don\u2019t want to wait for Apple and you also don\u2019t want to replace the battery yourself, you still have options. There are tons of third-party services that will replace your iPhone battery for a decent price (usually around $50-$80, according to CNET).<\/span><\/p>\n

One popular option is iCracked, which offers speedy on-site repairs. They also fix cracked screens and buy used devices. You can check here to see if they operate in your area.<\/span><\/p>\n

If not, do some quick Googling to see if there any other local smartphone repair shops nearby. Chances are there\u2019s a business in your area that can replace your iPhone 6 Plus battery more quickly than Apple, and for a decent price.<\/span><\/p>\n
