{"id":55231,"date":"2017-12-22T04:53:39","date_gmt":"2017-12-22T04:53:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.biphoo.com\/bipnews\/?p=55231"},"modified":"2017-12-22T04:53:39","modified_gmt":"2017-12-22T04:53:39","slug":"almost-3000-flu-cases-have-been-reported-in-arizona-so-far","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.biphoo.com\/bipnews\/health\/almost-3000-flu-cases-have-been-reported-in-arizona-so-far.html","title":{"rendered":"Almost 3,000 flu cases have been reported in Arizona so far"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 18pt\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">Almost 3,000 flu cases have been reported in Arizona so far<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">Health officials say flu cases are widespread in Arizona with more than 2,600 cases reported than this time last year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">The Arizona Department of Health Services say as of Wednesday, there have been almost 3,000 cases of flu reported compared to less than 350 for the same time period in 2016.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">Health officials say during the past two flu seasons, Arizona did not reach widespread activity until February.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">But with the colder weather ready to kick in, health experts think it&#8217;s about to get worse.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">&#8220;We&#8217;ve definitely seen influenza hitting the valley very quickly and with a vengeance this year,&#8221; said Dr. Janice Johnston, the Medical Director of Re-Direct Health.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">Since the virus mutates so quickly, it&#8217;s hard to keep up.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">&#8220;Every year the vaccine manufacturers try to predict what type of virus is going to be coming to the country,&#8221; Dr. Johnston said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">But every year, the numbers show that those manufacturers get it wrong.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">Only once in the last five years has the vaccine proven to be more effective than not.
