Donald Trump amasses North Korea’s bitter enemies to FORCE peace talks<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

Donald Trump amasses North Korea’s bitter enemies to FORCE peace talks:- Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and Canadian Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland have announced a new international pressure group to force North Korea around the negotiating table.<\/span><\/p>\n

The group, known as the \u201cVancouver Group\u201d contains 16 countries that were part of the original UN-led military coalition that fought against North Korea\u2019s invasion in the Korean War, as well as South Korea, Japan, India, Sweden and others – according to Tillerson.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mr Tillerson said: \u201cThe pressure campaign is intended to lead to talks.<\/span><\/p>\n

“We can\u2019t talk unless North Korea is ready to talk, and I think, as we\u2019ve indicated, we\u2019re waiting for them to indicate a readiness to talk.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The Defence Secretary said the group will discuss how to “improve the effectiveness of the current pressure campaign\u201d and how to “prepare for the prospect of talks\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mr Tillerson added: \u201cThe pressure campaign will not abate, we will not be rolling any of it back, it will only be intensified as time goes by, and it will remain in place until they agree to give up their nuclear weapons and allow us to verify that that is in fact what they have done.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Ms Freeland said it is a \u201cdemonstration of international solidarity against North Korea\u2019s dangerous and illegal actions\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

The US Defence Secretary said the talks have Trump\u2019s backing, despite the President ridiculing the idea of negotiations previously.<\/span><\/p>\n

Trump tweeted on August 30: \u201cThe US has been talking to North Korea, and paying them extortion money, for 25 years. Talking is not the answer.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

On October 7, he tweeted: \u201cPresidents and their administrations have been talking to North Korea for 25 years, agreements made and massive amounts of money paid.<\/span><\/p>\n

[It] hasn’t worked, agreements violated before the ink was dry, makings fools of U.S. negotiators. Sorry, but only one thing will work.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

He also tweeted that he told Tillerson that he was \u201cwasting his time trying to negotiate with Little Rocket Man (a derogatory nickname he gave to Kim Jong-un).<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cSave your energy Rex, we’ll do what has to be done.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

But Mr Tillerson denied there was any confusion or mixed messages and said: \u201cThey have not rejected diplomatic talks. What the White House has merely observed is that North Korea has not exhibited a willingness to talk.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

He added the pressure campaign came from came from Trump\u2019s National Security Council.<\/span>
\nHe continued: \u201cOtherwise we wouldn\u2019t need to do this. We\u2019d just go straight to the military option.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Canada and the United States plan to co-host an international meeting on North Korea in Vancouver in January.<\/span><\/p>\n

Pyongyang has continued to test nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles in violation of UN Security Council resolutions.<\/span><\/p>\n

The meeting is designed to produce \u201cbetter ideas\u201d to ease tensions over North Korea\u2019s tests, Canadian officials have said.<\/span><\/p>\n

The two ministers also are likely to discuss US President Donald Trump\u2019s demand for revisions to the North American Free Trade Agreement between the United States, Canada and Mexico.<\/span><\/p>\n

A senior State Department official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Tillerson and Freeland conferred on North Korea, Ukraine and Venezuela among other issues.<\/span><\/p>\n
