USA and Japan at breaking point over North Korea after THIS shocking incident<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

JAPANESE and American relations came under strain after a shocking military accident, it has been revealed.<\/span><\/p>\n

A window fell from a US military helicopter onto a school sports field on Wednesday and is the latest in a series of accidents that have fanned safety concerns on Japan’s southern island of Okinawa.<\/span><\/p>\n

A 10-year-old boy suffered a minor injury but the exact cause was unclear.<\/span><\/p>\n

The boy was among about 50 children on the elementary school grounds when the window fell from a US CH-53E transport helicopter.<\/span><\/p>\n

Japan’s Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga said: “This sort of incident creates anxiety not only among those involved with the school but the people of Okinawa and should never happen.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Suga told a regular news conference that the Government would respond appropriately after getting an explanation from US officials.<\/span><\/p>\n

The US Marines on Okinawa said in a statement that the helicopter had immediately returned and reported the incident.<\/span><\/p>\n

The statement said: “We take this report extremely seriously and are investigating the cause of this incident in close coordination with local authorities.<\/span><\/p>\n

“This is a regrettable incident and we apologise for any anxiety it has caused the community.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Japan’s central government and Okinawa authorities have been at odds for years over the US Futenma base.<\/span><\/p>\n

Residents complain about what they see as the unfair burden they carry in supporting the US military presence in Japan.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Futenma base is surrounded by schools, hospitals and shops.<\/span><\/p>\n

Residents worry about air crashes as a US Marines CH-53E helicopter made an emergency landing and burst into flames in northern Okinawa in October, but no one was injured.<\/span><\/p>\n

Crime committed by US servicemen has also angered residents.<\/span><\/p>\n

Okinawa Governor Takeshi Onaga led the campaign to get the base off the island, while the central government has proposed moving it to a less populated part of the island called Henoko.<\/span><\/p>\n

Japan has a limited military due to a constitution imposed by the United States after the Second World War.<\/span><\/p>\n

US military aid is essential, especially since tensions have escalated between Japan and North Korea.<\/span><\/p>\n

The incident comes after the United States, Japan and South Korea held two days missile tracking drills on Monday as tensions continue to escalate in the region with North Korea continuing its missile and nuclear weapons programmes.<\/span><\/p>\n

North Korea has fired a number of missiles over Japan as it continues to develop both ballistic and nuclear weapons despite UN sanctions and worldwide condemnation.<\/span><\/p>\n

On November 29, it test-fired an intercontinental ballistic missile which it said was its most advanced yet, capable of reaching the mainland United States.<\/span><\/p>\n

This week’s exercises is the sixth drill sharing information in tracking ballistic missiles among the three nations, the Japanese defence force said.<\/span><\/p>\n

North Korea regularly threatens to destroy South Korea, Japan and the US and says its weapons programmes are necessary to counter what it claims is US aggression.<\/span><\/p>\n

North Korean propaganda frequently lambasts the US and the South Korea as \u201cimperialists\u201d due to the Korean War.<\/span><\/p>\n

Japan is despised in the North because of its occupation of the Peninsula from 1910 until the end of the Second World War.<\/span><\/p>\n

For the first 10 years, Japan ruled directly through the military and any dissent was crushed.<\/span><\/p>\n
