{"id":54344,"date":"2017-12-12T05:21:31","date_gmt":"2017-12-12T05:21:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.biphoo.com\/bipnews\/?p=54344"},"modified":"2017-12-12T05:21:31","modified_gmt":"2017-12-12T05:21:31","slug":"1-killed-another-seriously-injured-route-70-crash","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.biphoo.com\/bipnews\/news\/1-killed-another-seriously-injured-route-70-crash.html","title":{"rendered":"1 killed, another seriously injured in Route 70 crash"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 18pt\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">1 killed, another seriously injured in Route 70 crash<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">1 killed, another seriously injured in Route 70 crash:- One person was killed and another was seriously injured Monday morning in a head-on crash on Route 70 in Manchester Township, police said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">Officers responded to mile-marker 41 on Route 70 in the Whiting section of the township at 11:48 a.m. on the report of a serious crash involving two vehicles, police said in a news release.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">Based on the investigation, police said a red Toyota Echo was traveling east on Route 70 when it crossed the center line and entered the westbound lane of travel.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">The Echo continued onto the westbound shoulder and the berm on the westbound side before crashing head-on into a westbound Toyota Sienna minivan, which had tried to swerve out of the way before the crash, police said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">The driver of the Echo &#8212; Gerda Kretschmer, 81, of Whiting &#8212; suffered serious internal injuries in the crash and needed to be extricated from her vehicle by firefighters, police said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">Kretschmer was taken to Community Medical Center in Toms River where she succumbed to her injuries, police said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">The Sienna driver &#8212; James A. Canfield, 49, of Brick &#8212; suffered injuries to his chest and shoulder in the crash, police said.
