US needs to economically ‘STARVE’ Kim Jong-un regime to avoid World War 3<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

US needs to economically ‘STARVE’ Kim Jong-un regime to avoid World War 3:- THE United States should continue to sanction North Korea in order to contain the risk of World War 3 breaking out, North Korea expert Gordon Chang has warned.<\/span><\/p>\n

North Korea’s re-designation as a “sponsor of terror” will help the United States “starve” the Kim regime, Mr Chang claimed.<\/span><\/p>\n

The East Asia and North Korea security expert said: “The thing about that designation is that it is symbolic but it does bring with it about a handful of sanctions which were important.<\/span><\/p>\n

“I think that the way we settle this peacefully is we just starve the regime of funds.<\/span><\/p>\n

“Funds in order to build nukes, detonate all sort of stuff, launch missiles, engage in \u2018gift\u2019 policy \u2013 which is Kim Jong-un buying the loyalty of people around him.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Mr Chang said cutting North Korea off and putting sanctions on the rogue state’s allies would help pacify the growing tensions that have thrown the international community into a World War 3 panic.<\/span><\/p>\n

He told Fox News: “We need to cut off the money and that designation helped a little bit. But there are so many more important things we need to do. That\u2019s just a small part of the puzzle.<\/span><\/p>\n

“There\u2019s a lot more things we can do to disarm North Korea peacefully. For instance, much more intensive sanctions.<\/span><\/p>\n

“Not only on North Korea but especially on North Korea\u2019s backers \u2013 China, Russia, some other countries.”<\/span><\/p>\n

China remains the only North Korean ally in the region due to a 1961 treaty which economically and militarily binds the two countries.<\/span><\/p>\n

The television pundit said North Korea’s ultimate goal is to push a large US military-force presence out of the Korean peninsula in order to “take over’ neighbouring South Korea.<\/span><\/p>\n

Seoul and Washington have a long-established military partnership, with nearly 38,000 members of US forces deployed in the East Asian country.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mr Chang continued: “The North Koreans want to intimidate the United States so they can then get South Korea into submission so they can take it over. That\u2019s, I think, the real danger here.<\/span><\/p>\n

“That\u2019s the ultimate endgame for the Korean regime. Ever since 1948, when Kim Il-sung founded the North Korean regime and that\u2019s been their consistent goal.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Tensions between North Korea dictator Kim Jong-un and US President Donald Trump have been escalating since the two leaders began a war of words over the summer.<\/span><\/p>\n

US and South Korean forces are currently undertaking a five-day exercise involving 230 aircrafts in the Korean peninsula.<\/span><\/p>\n

North Korea’s state media said the drills were pushing the country to “the brink of nuclear war” after Kim Jong-un tried to cancel the exercise.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Korean Central News Agency said on Sunday the US and South Korea “will pay dearly for their provocations”.<\/span><\/p>\n

It added the US is “begging for nuclear war by staging an extremely dangerous nuclear gamble on the Korean peninsula”.<\/span><\/p>\n

And North Korea’s aggressive rhetoric has been frustrating South Korean attempts to create a buzz for the 2018 Winter Olympics \u2013 scheduled to take place in the city of Pyeongchang in February.<\/span><\/p>\n

The latest missile test from Pyongyang was an unexpected development for Seoul after the Olympics organisers got on track after facing construction delays and wary sponsors.<\/span><\/p>\n
