North Korea is ‘MORE likely’ to use ‘nuclear weapons’ NOW ex-US official says<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

Mike Mullen, the former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, stated that the rogue state is more likely to use nuclear weapons than ever when questioned on the possibility of a renewed provocation.<\/span><\/p>\n

He said: “I don’t know. I think it’s more probable than it used to be.<\/span><\/p>\n

“And it scares me to death, quite frankly. They’re the most dangerous weapons in the world.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAnd certainly if we have someone in North Korea that has a lethal legacy, is very, very unpredictable, and sees this as a way to solidify his future, that he could well not just attain them but potentially use them.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Mr Mullen stated that the persistent war of words between Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un is one of the reasons that nuclear war is more probable than ever.<\/span><\/p>\n

Both the Republican firebrand and despot leader have traded insults and threatened to destroy each other on numerous occasions.<\/span><\/p>\n

The former official added: “I worry there is more uncertainty than there was a year ago, in principle because of the rhetoric that is there.<\/span><\/p>\n

“It’s still a very difficult place to know what’s actually going on.<\/span><\/p>\n

“I think Kim Jong-un is really working hard to achieve the nuclear capability. And I think he’ll get there short of some deterrence.”<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition to the threat of nuclear annihilation from the hermit kingdom, a top security expert recently warned that the world should prepare in the event Kim Jong-un starts to use cyber attacks in his ever-expanding arsenal of weapons.<\/span><\/p>\n

The FBI and Homeland Security recently announced that Pyongyang hackers are behind a malware attack known as FALLCHILL, which targeted the aerospace, telecommunications and financial industries.<\/span><\/p>\n

This is just the latest hack blamed on the hermit kingdom after North Koreans have also been blamed for cyber attacks on media companies like Sony and the UK\u2019s Channel Four, international banks and the infamous WannaCry ransomware that shut down the NHS last spring.<\/span><\/p>\n

Although the mysterious country is well known for its antiquated internet systems, this does not mean they cannot launch an attack.<\/span><\/p>\n

Edward Whittingham, former police officer, qualified solicitor, and founder of the Business Fraud Prevention Partnership (BFPP) said: \u201cCyber attacks are easier to launch than people often appreciate and, to an extent, these types of attacks could be considered the perfect weapon as an alternative to military attacks.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAs a small state, particularly as isolated as North Korea currently is, a cyber attack provides North Korea with a genuine option to cause significant damage, with much less chance of public or military reprisal than if they were to launch a missile, for example.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cGiven what we saw occur with Wannacry, it is fair to assume that North Korea is more than capable of launching a serious cyber attack but there are many reasons why this occurred and so many nations are now capable of similar attacks, should they wish to do so.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

And in times of rising tensions between the US and North Korea, cyber attacks could be the perfect weapon for the dictator.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mr Whittingham added: \u201cClearly, as cyber-attacks carry a much lower risk than any physical military action, which will definitely be something North Korea is aware of.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhy risk worldwide repercussions for making a very public attack in the form of a missile, when they could launch a cyber-attack which is likely to go under the radar to an extent?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
