US warplanes practice landings as North Korea prepares for winter drills<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

US WARPLANES have been practicing touch-and-go landings on the USS Nimitz aircraft carrier during dramatic naval drills in the Sea of Japan as North Korean troops prepare for winter training amid fears of World War 3 breaking out.<\/span><\/p>\n

The exercises are the first time three US aircraft carrier strike groups have been assembled in the Sea of Japan since North Korea’s nuclear and missile program began in the 1990s.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Nimitz has also been joined by the USS Ronald Reagan and USS Theodore Roosevelt alongside a powerful fleet of other US and South Korean battleships.<\/span><\/p>\n

The show of strength was intended to underline the US administration’s resolve to respond to North Korean provocation with possible military action as well as strengthened economic sanctions.<\/span><\/p>\n

Admiral Gregory Harris, commander of the Nimitz\u2019s strike group, said the training exercise sends a \u201cpowerful message\u201d to North Korea.<\/span><\/p>\n

He said: \u201cThe United States has the world power and unique capability to be able to bring this kind of fire power to bear at a time and place of our choosing.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Admiral Harris, however, warned Kim Jong-un the US is ready to strike but would prefer a peaceful solution.<\/span><\/p>\n

He told NBC: \u201cWe\u2019re obviously looking for any kind of peaceful solution to any conflict worldwide.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cBut, that peaceful resolution is backed up by having the ability to do what is necessary should that become needed.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

North Korea\u2019s UN ambassador Ja Song-nam said the US carrier group\u2019s presence has raised the threat of possible nuclear war.<\/span><\/p>\n

In a letter to Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, North Korea warned the joint military exercise is creating \u201cthe worst ever situation prevailing in and around the Korean peninsula\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

The ambassador added: \u201cThe large-scale nuclear war exercises and blackmails, which the US stages for a whole year without a break in collaboration with its followers to stifle our republic, make one conclude that the option we have taken was the right one and we should go along the way to the last.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

While not elaborating on what \u201cthe last\u201d might be, North Korea has tested several ballistic missiles and threatened to directly hit mainland US.<\/span><\/p>\n

South Korean military sources said they are monitoring activity in the North as troops prepare for winter drills.<\/span><\/p>\n

Traditionally Kim Jong-un’s troops train from December to April.<\/span><\/p>\n

A South Korean military official said in a briefing: “Currently, the North Korean troops are conducting ordinary field exercises. But our military is keeping a full readiness posture against the possibility of North Korea’s provocations.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Seoul is keeping combat ready against possible provocations from Kim’s regime as tensions continue to simmer on the Korean peninsula.<\/span><\/p>\n
