Now, it\u2019s adding another feature, as well, called \u201cThis Weekend Only.\u201d The new section lists deals that can be found inside apps, as opposed to discounts on downloads of apps themselves.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 14pt\">As Apple\u2019s editors explain in the feature\u2019s introduction:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 14pt\">Today, we\u2019re kicking off a new way to save using your favorite apps. You\u2019ll get great deals, available only through these apps, on everything from apparel to food delivery, hotel reservations to movie tickets.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 14pt\">To see the discounts, head to the Apps tab each Thursday. There you\u2019ll find an app labeled \u201cThis Weekend Only\u201d with an exclusively promotion that\u2019s valid through Sunday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 14pt\">The note also adds that Apple is offering five deals instead of just one to kick of the promotion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 14pt\">This weekend\u2019s list includes a 40 percent discount on HotelTonight bookings, a free case from Warby Parker, $20 off Under Armour orders, free Chips &amp; Queso from Chipotle, and 15 percent on orders at Shoptiques.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 14pt\">9to5Mac and other sites first discovered the new App Store section when it debuted on Thursday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 14pt\">The launch has likely been timed to capitalize on the busy holiday shopping season ahead, where it\u2019s being forecast that mobile holiday shopping visits in the U.S. will surpass desktop for the first time.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 14pt\">It makes sense that Apple would want to capture some of consumers\u2019 interest in mobile commerce by pointing people to apps where they could save on purchases, as well as on other holiday expenses, like travel.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 14pt\">But more broadly, a recent analysis of the revamped App Store found that its new \u201cApp of the Day\u201d and \u201cGame of the Day\u201d features \u2013 though notable in terms of driving downloads \u2013 did better on weekdays than on weekends.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 14pt\">For example, the weekday download boost from being featured was 2,172 percent compared to weekends\u2019 580 percent boost.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 14pt\">That leaves room for a different type of app promotion to target weekend iPhone users.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 14pt\">\u201cThis Weekend Only\u201d gets started before the weekend begins, however.
