Redskins probably without Matt Ioannidis again on Sunday against Vikings:-The Redskins are expecting to be without Matt Ioannidis for at least one more game. The second-year defensive lineman is still recovering from surgery to repair a fracture in his hand. He\u2019s been unable to practice again this week and isn\u2019t likely be ready for Sunday\u2019s game against the Vikings.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt feels good,\u201d Ioannidis said, sitting in front of his locker at Redskins Park on Thursday. \u201cAbout a week out from surgery. But it\u2019s going to take a little time.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

He said he doesn\u2019t expect to visit with a doctor again until next week for an update. When he does get the green light to return, he\u2019ll probably be competing with a cast on his left hand. He did that once before, after injuring his thumb in college, and doesn\u2019t seem too concerned about how it might impact his play.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt just is what it is,\u201d he said. \u201cOne of those things.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

But coaches and the training staff will certainly be paying close attention to just how effective he\u2019ll be with a cast, and that will probably tell them when Ioannidis is ready to slide back into the defensive line rotation.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s going to have to cast it up, and he\u2019ll have his fingers free, so he can still grab and stuff like that,\u201d Redskins Coach Jay Gruden said. \u201cI think that\u2019s the important thing: Can he grab without any pain, and is it safe to grab right now so close to surgery? So I think we want to make sure it\u2019s stable and he can do it without damaging it more.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Ioannidis fractured the fourth metacarpal in his left hand in the first quarter of the Redskins\u2019 33-19 loss to Dallas on Oct. 29 and had surgery a couple of days later. He\u2019s been present at the Redskins\u2019 practices since then, watching his teammates from the side with his hand wrapped.<\/span><\/p>\n

Without Ioannidis and Jonathan Allen, the rookie who went on injured reserve last month with a foot injury, the Redskins have been relying more heavily up front on Ziggy Hood, Terrell McClain and Anthony Lanier, particularly in nickel packages, occasionally bringing in four linebackers in boost their pass rush.<\/span><\/p>\n

When Ioannidis went down, the Redskins signed free agent Arthur Jones for some added depth. But Jones dislocated his shoulder early in last Sunday\u2019s win at Seattle. He hasn\u2019t practiced since and isn\u2019t expected to play against the Vikings.<\/span><\/p>\n

With both Ioannidis and Jones probably sidelined Sunday, the lone roster move the Redskins made this week along the defensive line was adding Tavaris Barnes to the practice squad.<\/span><\/p>\n
