No new PlayStation or Xbox consoles for at least two years predicts Ubisoft<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

No new PlayStation or Xbox consoles for at least two years predicts Ubisoft:- Ubisoft is not expecting any new consoles to arrive before Christmas 2019, as its boss insists that single-player games aren\u2019t doomed.<\/span><\/p>\n

This will be the fourth Christmas for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, which is around the time you might expect to hear the first rumblings about a new generation of consoles. If in fact there is going to be a new generation, given how the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X have shaken up the usual hardware cycle.<\/span><\/p>\n

But the boss of publisher Ubisoft thinks that there won\u2019t be any new consoles for \u2018a minimum of two years\u2019. Although he admits that\u2019s just an educated guess and not insider information.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2018As Sony launched PlayStation 4 Pro last year and Microsoft Xbox One X this year, we think we still have a minimum of two years in front of us before something new is coming,\u2019 said Yves Guillemot to investors. \u2018But that\u2019s our perception, we don\u2019t have any confidential information on that front.\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n

Christmas 2019 has already been suggested by some as the date Sony might be aiming at for their next console, although no one seems to have any idea whether that would be a PS4 Super Pro or an actual PlayStation 5.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ubisoft were talking to investors because of their latest financial results, where they announced that Assassin\u2019s Creed Origins has so far sold twice as much as previous game Syndicate.<\/span><\/p>\n

They also revealed that games on the Nintendo Switch made up 19% of their sales, compared to 20% for Xbox One, and 31% for PlayStation 4. That was only for the last three months though, when Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle was released and not a lot else for other formats, but it\u2019s certainly going to encourage Ubisoft to continue support for the Switch.<\/span><\/p>\n

What will also encourage them is that \u2018player-recurring investments\u2019 made more money than digital sales of actual games. That\u2019s an umbrella term for any digital sale that isn\u2019t the game itself, so microtransactions, loot boxes, season passes, and traditional DLC.<\/span><\/p>\n

Player-recurring investment sales were up 83% from last year, while overall digital revenues were up 69% and now account for more than half of all sales \u2013 so more than physical retail releases.<\/span><\/p>\n

But unlike EA, Guillemot was keen to downplay talk of the death of single-player, saying that, \u2018Those types of games can continue to sell for a long time\u2019 if they have role-playing elements to increase the game\u2019s replayability.<\/span><\/p>\n

He also highlighted user-generated content as a way to keep people playing beyond just completing the story, which is interesting because that\u2019s not really something that\u2019s been a major part of Ubisoft games in the past.<\/span><\/p>\n
