{"id":50978,"date":"2017-11-07T05:54:12","date_gmt":"2017-11-07T05:54:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.biphoo.com\/bipnews\/?p=50978"},"modified":"2017-11-07T05:54:12","modified_gmt":"2017-11-07T05:54:12","slug":"tiger-attacks-zookeeper-front-horrified-onlookers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.biphoo.com\/bipnews\/world-news\/tiger-attacks-zookeeper-front-horrified-onlookers.html","title":{"rendered":"Tiger attacks zookeeper in front of horrified onlookers"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 18pt\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">Tiger attacks zookeeper in front of horrified onlookers<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">Tiger attacks zookeeper in front of horrified onlookers:- A Russian zookeeper has been seriously injured after being mauled by a Siberian tiger while working in the animal\u2019s enclosure.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">The woman was transferred to a hospital in Kaliningrad, about 50km north of the Polish border, and her injuries are said to be non-life threatening. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">Horrified onlookers said the animal pinned the woman down and began clawing and biting at her while she screamed and tried to fight off the attack.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">In a statement, Kaliningrad Zoo said the unidentified zookeeper was saved by quick-thinking zoo visitors who yelled and threw stones and other objects, including a table and benches from a nearby cafe, into the enclosure, in order to distract the tiger and allow the woman to escape.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">The zoo\u2019s spokesperson Ekaterina Mikhailova said the 16-year-old tiger had never attacked or shown aggression to a zookeeper before and was now safely enclosed again, after being sedated due to stress. Zoo representatives said there would be no further action taken against the animal.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">Ms Mikhailova said investigations into the incident will continue, however initial inquiries suggest the zookeeper violated safety rules which allowed the tiger to walk back into its enclosure while she was still inside.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">No other zoo staff were present during the incident.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">Amur tigers are classified as an endangered species and hunted by poachers in Russia\u2019s far-east.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">This isn\u2019t the first time Kaliningrad Zoo has been in the news.
