2 pedestrians, 67 and 49, shot in Heart of Chicago<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

2 pedestrians, 67 and 49, shot in Heart of Chicago:- A rolling shootout on Cermak Road in the Heart of Chicago neighborhood left two pedestrians injured Monday afternoon, according to police.<\/span><\/p>\n

The rifle shooting happened about 1:30 p.m. in the 2100 block of West Cermak Road. A 67-year-old man and a 49-year-old woman were walking when young men in cars chasing and exchanging gunfire with each other down Cermak missed and hit the pedestrians.<\/span><\/p>\n

The man was shot in the left shoulder and was taken to Stroger Hospital; the woman was grazed in her abdomen and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, according to police. The man is in serious condition and the woman in good condition, police said.<\/span><\/p>\n

Police found rifle casings for almost a block down Cermak Road, a busy commercial stretch west of Pilsen normally teeming with foot traffic.<\/span><\/p>\n

Neither of the two people shot was an intended target, police said. As well as the two wounded people, the shootout also caused two car crashes and left a lot of property damaged, including car windows being shot out.<\/span><\/p>\n

“I saw cars flying, heard the crash, then another (crash),” said Ivan Delgado, a 24-year-old lifelong neighborhood resident and employee at a shoe store on Cermak near the crime scene. “I came out and seen the van right away.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Just east of where he stood, there was damage to a white van in the middle of Cermak Road. Closer to Hoyne Avenue, four more vehicles were damaged.<\/span><\/p>\n

Inside a grocery store parking lot near the intersection, a window was shot out on a small green car. An American Legion post sustained damage from the gunfire.<\/span><\/p>\n

A woman, who asked not to be identified, said she was parking when she saw someone chamber a round and fire out the passenger side of a white SUV before someone in a red car returned fire. The white SUV continued east on Cermak from the grocery store, she said.<\/span><\/p>\n

At least two gunmen took off on foot after the shootout, leaving behind a 2016 Jeep Cherokee that crashed in the street.<\/span><\/p>\n

In an earlier, unrelated shooting, a 17-year-old boy was shot in the 4000 block of West Carroll Avenue in the West Garfield Park neighborhood around 11 a.m., police said.<\/span><\/p>\n

The teen was shot in the buttocks during an argument, police said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition had stabilized, police said.<\/span><\/p>\n

An additional West Side shooting left a male injured. The victim, of an unknown age, walked into West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park around 10:45 a.m. Police said he accidentally shot himself in the foot while in the 1600 block of North Austin Avenue.<\/span><\/p>\n
