Putin meets with Iran as North Korea nuclear threats towards US escalate<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

VLADIMIR PUTIN has arrived in Iran to discuss nuclear power, Syria and growing partnership as two of the United State\u2019s rivals grow closer amid high tensions over the North Korea threat.<\/span><\/p>\n

Vladimir Putin landed and warmly greeted the Iranian leader as they are expected to discuss the controversial and endangered 2015 Iran nuclear deal and regional crises such as the Syrian conflict.<\/span><\/p>\n

During his visit, Mr Putin is also set to discuss boosting bilateral economic ties, and will take part in a three-way summit between Russia, Iran and neighbouring Azerbaijan, state TV said.<\/span><\/p>\n

One Tehran official said: \u201cThis is a very important visit. It shows the determination of Tehran and Moscow to deepen their strategic alliance which will shape the future of the Middle East.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cBoth Russia and Iran are under American pressure. Tehran has no other choice but to rely on Moscow to ease the U.S. pressure.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

President Trump broke ranks with other major powers last month by refusing to formally certify Iran’s compliance with the nuclear deal, meaning most sanctions on Iran were lifted in exchange for Tehran curbing its nuclear work.<\/span><\/p>\n

Donald Trump branded Iranian leaders \u201cgreat negotiators\u201d who \u201cnegotiated a great deal for themselves, but a horrible deal for the US\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

The US President has been critical of the agreement which was completed by Barack Obama and world powers including Britain, Russia, France, Germany and China.<\/span><\/p>\n

Iran claimed that the move from Mr Trump was an insult to Tehran and to the United Nations.<\/span><\/p>\n

The speaker for the Islamic Consultative Assembly, Ali Larijani, said: \u201cIt seems that Mr Trump not only does not adhere to international agreements, but does not feel respect for the UN and demonstrates to all countries that the US government will not adhere to any obligations.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIran openly announced that the nuclear weapons have no place in our military doctrine. It seems that Mr Trump because of his hostility with Mr Obama would like to destroy the agreement because of internal issues in his own country.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, said: \u201cThe American president’s foolish remarks against our people show the depth of America’s hostility towards the entire Iranian nation,” Iran’s top authority Khamenei told a group of students.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAmerica is the number one enemy of our nation.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

As two of the United State’s rivals meet, nuclear tensions are already high as Kim Jong-un\u2019s hermit state has been ramping up nuclear testing after its \u201cwar of words\u201d against Mr Trump.<\/span><\/p>\n

North Korea’s nuclear missile tests have lead to fears that the current global situation is as tense as things were in the Cold War.<\/span><\/p>\n

Dr Lassina Zerbo, executive secretary for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO), told Sky News: \u201cI think the risk is bigger than when I joined the organisation 13 years ago. I think the world is more dangerous than it used to be 10 years ago.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cSince the Cold War we have never been in this situation where things are so tense and then nobody knows what is happening.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt would be dangerous for our environment, dangerous for the population, because a weapon today is hundred of times more powerful than those that were tested 45 years ago.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cMy worst fear is sometimes when I wake up and have a feeling that despite all we do things seem to not be moving,\u201d he said. \u201cIt happens sometimes when you wake up and you see another test, and when you see the rhetoric.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhen you see that leaders are not finding solutions sometimes at the security council, that\u2019s frightening and it should be frightening.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The US President is set to travel to Asia in his bid to urge countries to continue applying pressure on Kim Jong-un’s rogue state and its nuclear programmes.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mr Trump will visit South Korea, Japan, China, Vietnam and the Philippines, but fears have been raised that the trip could trigger World War 3. The US has deployed nuclear bombers to the Pacific ahead of the Asia tour.<\/span><\/p>\n
