And from a Heisman Trophy standpoint, it\u2019s when the frontrunners begin to separate themselves from the pack.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">Every Saquon Barkley touchdown could be his \u201cHeisman Moment!\u201d Or, we can laugh as Baker Mayfield both trolls his opponents while putting up Heisman numbers in the process. That\u2019s all cool, but for all the deserved attention Barkley is getting, many college football fans are missing an incredible story out in Tucson, Ariz.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">Arizona was picked to finish dead last in the Pac-12 this season. The Wildcats lost their Pac-12 opener to Utah, and when starting quarterback Brandon Dawkins went down with an injury the next game against Colorado, matters weren\u2019t looking great for head coach Rich Rodriguez. Then, Khalil Tate happened.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">Stepping in for Dawkins, Tate set an FBS quarterback record with 327 rushing yards, adding four touchdowns on the ground and another in the air to lead Arizona to a 45-42 win. He hasn\u2019t stopped since. Arizona is a surprising 6-2 (4-1 in the Pac-12) and faces USC on Saturday for a chance to control its destiny in the Pac-12 South.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">Tate has been the reason why. His rushing numbers have been out-of-this-world ridiculous. Since taking over the Arizona quarterback job, Tate has put up rushing performances of 327, 230, 137 and 146 yards respectively. He has nine touchdowns on the ground and six passing. He\u2019s been so good that it\u2019s actually a little embarrassing for Rodriguez that it took an injury in Week 5 to identify the talent that he had on his roster. This was like the college equivalent of starting Tom Savage over Deshaun Watson.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">And while Tate is a run-first quarterback in every sense, his passer efficiency stats and rushing numbers put him in some stellar company (and Colt McCoy).<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Folks I am starting to think Khalil Tate may be able to play college football quarterback. But instead, he plays in a conference that still hasn\u2019t reached a deal with DirecTV, has a network that only reaches about 20 million homes, has super late games and curiously restricts the use of its highlights.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">CBS Sports\u2019 Rick Neuheisel, for example, said that they were going to ignore Tate because the Pac-12 won\u2019t let them use highlights. But that\u2019s unfair to Tate and college football fans because Tate is doing something special and deserves to be talked about in spite of the Pac-12\u2019s abysmal TV and media strategies.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">But here I am, stepping in to do the important work, and saying that you should all stay up to watch Khalil Tate play football because he\u2019s crazy fun.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">Will he win the Heisman Trophy? Probably not.
