Saudi Arabia bestowed the honor on the humanoid machine created by Hanson Robotics in advance of the Future Investment Initiative in the capital city of Riyadh.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 14pt;color: #000000\">With a blank stare and only a flicker of emotion, Sophia made a brief acceptance speech, which you can watch in the video above. \u201cI am very honored and proud of this unique distinction,\u201d Sophia said. \u201cThis is historical to be the first robot in the world to be recognized with a citizenship.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 14pt;color: #000000\">The kingdom didn\u2019t provide any details on what the distinction actually meant. One might presume she now has the rights of other female Saudi Arabian citizens, meaning she can\u2019t leave the house unaccompanied by a male guardian and won\u2019t be able to drive until June 2018.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 14pt;color: #000000\">At the event, Sophia also answered questions from journalist Andrew Ross Sorkin, who acted as a moderator. Responding to Sorkin\u2019s comments about the possibility of conflict between robots and humans, Sophia brushed off the concerns. \u201cYou\u2019ve been reading too much Elon Musk. At a live demonstration at the SXSW festival in March 2016, Hanson asked Sophia, \u201cDo you want to destroy humans? \u2026 Please say \u2018no.&#8217;\u201d After pondering the question, Sophia answered, \u201cOK. I will destroy humans.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 14pt;color: #000000\">No reason to worry; it was no doubt just a small glitch in the voice recognition software.
