North Korea main ALLY is getting VERY frustrated: How China is FROSTY with Kim Jong-un<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

NORTH Korea is becoming increasingly isolated as its relationship with only ally China cracks amid rising tensions over the North\u2019s repeated nuclear missile tests.<\/span><\/p>\n

Kim Jong-un sent a rare congratulatory message to Chinese President Xi Jinping on Wednesday at the end of China\u2019s Communist Party Congress, wishing him \u201cgreat success\u201d as head of the nation.<\/span><\/p>\n

But the friendly gesture by the North Korean leader, who seldom issues personal messages, comes as China is being pressured by the international community to do more to rein in the North\u2019s missile and nuclear tests that have raised tensions globally.<\/span><\/p>\n

Xi became China\u2019s most powerful leader since Mao Zedong at the all-important week-long congress.<\/span><\/p>\n

The North\u2019s state-run central news agency said Kim\u2019s message expressed the conviction that the relations between the two parties and the two countries would develop in the interests of the peoples of the two countries.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe Chinese people have entered the road of building socialism with the Chinese characteristics in the new era.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

And Kim Jong-un was not the only leader to send his congratulations. US President Donald Trump seized the opportunity to call Xi in an effort to cosy up to North Korea’s ally.<\/span><\/p>\n

When Xi was first appointed five years ago, Pyongyang sent a six-sentence-long congratulatory message that included phrases such as “strength of the mutual leadership, friendship and brotherhood.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

This time, the note was only four sentences.<\/span><\/p>\n

North Korea and China often exchange routine diplomatic correspondence and ceremonial letters to each other on political anniversaries or political promotions, although personal messages to and from the leaders tend to be few.<\/span><\/p>\n

It is too early to tell whether or not ties between the two countries are warming up or if the US has successfully driven a wedge between them.<\/span><\/p>\n

Yang Moo-jin, professor at the University of North Korean Studies in Seoul said: \u201cCongratulatory messages between North Korea and China are an old story and reading too much into the message exchanged would be a one-sided analysis. It\u2019s what they usually do and not surprising at all.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Relations between China and North Korea have worsened since Kim Jong-un took power in 2011.<\/span><\/p>\n

China did not want the rogue state governed by a third generation from the Kim family.<\/span><\/p>\n

China is the North\u2019s sole major ally, and accounts for more than 90 percent of trade with the isolated country.<\/span><\/p>\n

Beijing has shown it is irritated with Pyongyang following the isolated state\u2019s numerous missile launches and nuclear tests, repeatedly calling for restraint and urging all sides to speak and act carefully.<\/span><\/p>\n

China has said it will strictly enforce UN Security Council sanctions banning imports of North Korean coal, textiles and seafood, while cutting off oil shipments to the North.<\/span><\/p>\n

North Korea has not engaged in any missile or nuclear provocations since mid-September, although it tends to test fewer missiles late in the year for unexplained reasons.<\/span><\/p>\n

Kim Han-kwon, a professor at the Korea National Diplomatic Academy in Seoul said: \u201cNorth Korea has been walking a diplomatic tightrope by taking advantage of strategic mistrust between China and Russia, but it has not been easy as Beijing has sternly responded to its nuclear and missile provocations.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
