{"id":49308,"date":"2017-10-28T05:09:14","date_gmt":"2017-10-28T05:09:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.biphoo.com\/bipnews\/?p=49308"},"modified":"2017-10-28T05:09:14","modified_gmt":"2017-10-28T05:09:14","slug":"former-president-obama-called-jury-duty-cook-county-plans-serve","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.biphoo.com\/bipnews\/news\/former-president-obama-called-jury-duty-cook-county-plans-serve.html","title":{"rendered":"Former President Obama called to jury duty in Cook County and plans to serve"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 18pt\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">Former President Obama called to jury duty in Cook County and plans to serve<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">Former President Barack Obama has been called for Cook County jury duty \u2014 and plans to serve next month, the county\u2019s chief judge said Friday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">Chief Judge Tim Evans told county commissioners during a budget hearing that Obama, who owns homes in Washington, D.C., and Chicago\u2019s Kenwood neighborhood, will serve next month.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">Evans later told the Tribune that adjustments would be made to accommodate Obama\u2019s security detail, but he could not say the date or courthouse location where the former president is expected to report.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">\u201cObviously we will make certain that he has all the accouterments that accompany a former president,\u201d Evans said. \u201cHis safety will be uppermost in our minds.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">\u201cHe made it crystal-clear to me through his representative that he would carry out his public duty as a citizen and resident of this community,\u201d Evans said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">While Obama would likely be the highest-profile person ever to appear for jury duty in Cook County, other famous people, including Oprah Winfrey and Mr. T, have served, as have politicians including governors and mayors.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">Jurors can be called for civil or criminal pools \u2014 which are used to select jurors for trials \u2014 and they can be called to any of the county\u2019s city or suburban courthouses.
