{"id":48595,"date":"2017-10-25T04:42:21","date_gmt":"2017-10-25T04:42:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.biphoo.com\/bipnews\/?p=48595"},"modified":"2017-10-25T04:48:21","modified_gmt":"2017-10-25T04:48:21","slug":"google-dampens-rumours-of-revenue-split-with-publishers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.biphoo.com\/bipnews\/technology\/google-dampens-rumours-of-revenue-split-with-publishers.html","title":{"rendered":"Google dampens rumours of &#8216;revenue split&#8217; with publishers"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 18pt\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif\">Google dampens rumours of &#8216;revenue split&#8217; with publishers<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 14pt;color: #000000\">Google dampens rumours of \u2018revenue split\u2019 with publishers:- Google has played down reports that it is planning on splitting revenues with publishers in exchange for subscriber aid.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 14pt;color: #000000\">Over the weekend, The Financial Times reported that Google has been in talks with major news organisations for some time about the possibility of applying data similar to that which it currently uses to target online ads to help the media customise subscription offers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 14pt;color: #000000\">In an interview with the Financial Times, Google\u2019s news chief Richard Gingras said the revenue split in any such model would be much more rewarding to publishers than the company\u2019s advertising model, which gives 70 percent of revenue to websites.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 14pt;color: #000000\">The deal FT reported Google as offering to news publishers will reportedly be similar to the arrangement Google has with traditional advertisers through its AdSense business.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 14pt;color: #000000\">\u201cWe want to have a healthy ecosystem where we\u2019ll benefit both as a society and with our business,\u201d Gingras told the FT. \u201cWe are still working it out, we\u2019re not experts in the subscription business, but the rev shares will be very, very generous.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 14pt;color: #000000\">Responding to the reports Google spokeswoman Maggie Shiels told CNET: \u201cWe have not reached any conclusions on the revenue side. We haven\u2019t reached any conclusions [regarding] subscriptions and need to speak to publishers.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 14pt;color: #000000\">The move comes as Google moves to offer better search and ad solutions for news sites with paywalls. Bloomberg reported earlier this month that news search results for sites with paid subscriptions will no longer be demoted in Google search.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 14pt;color: #000000\">Dale Lovell, Chief Digital Officer and UK Managing Director at ADYOULIKE said: \u201cReports that Google might be prepared to share revenues with news publishers is another sign of the evolution of the race to monetise premium content. Currently, there is no hard and fast rule for publishers in maximising revenues from their content.
