we do view that as a huge piece of the future, we believe these frameworks will allow developers to create apps that will do more and more in this space, so we think the phone is a major platform,\u201d Williams said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 12pt;color: #000000\">He was speaking at top chip manufacturer Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company\u2019s (2330.TW) <\/span>30th anniversary<span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 12pt;color: #000000\"> celebration in Taipei, which was attended by global tech executives.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 12pt;color: #000000\">Williams said technological innovations, especially involving the cloud and on-device processing, will improve life without sacrificing privacy or security.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 12pt;color: #000000\">\u201cI think we\u2019re at an inflection point, with on-device computing, coupled with the potential of AI, to really change the world,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 12pt;color: #000000\">He said AI could be used to change the way healthcare is delivered, an industry he sees as \u201cripe\u201d for change.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 12pt;color: #000000\">Williams said Apple\u2019s integration of artificial intelligence wouldn\u2019t be just limited to mobile phones.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 12pt;color: #000000\">\u201cSome pieces will be done in data centers, some will be on the device, but we are already doing AI in the broader sense of the word, not the \u2018machines thinking for themselves\u2019 version of AI,\u201d he said referring to the work of Nvidia Corp (NVDA.O), a leader in AI.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 12pt;color: #000000\">Global tech firms such as Facebook (FB.O), Alphabet Inc (GOOGL.O), Amazon, and China\u2019s Huawei are spending heavily to develop and offer AI-powered services and products in search of new growth drivers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 12pt;color: #000000\">Softbank Group Corp (9984.T), which has significantly invested in artificial intelligence, plans a second Vision Fund that could be about $200 billion in size, the Wall Street Journal reported on Friday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 12pt;color: #000000\">At Monday\u2019s event, TSMC Chairman Morris Chang described his company\u2019s relationship with Apple as \u201cintense.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 12pt;color: #000000\">Williams said the relationship started in 2010, the year Apple launched the iPhone 4, with both parties taking on substantial risk.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 12pt;color: #000000\">He credited Chang for TSMC\u2019s \u201chuge\u201d capital investment to ramp up faster than the pace the industry was used to at the time.
