We\u2019ve been given another piece of the \u2018Reputation\u2019 puzzle, but Taylor Swift\u2019s new song falls short of what I was hoping for. \u2018Gorgeous\u2019 is good, but I\u2019m waiting for an \u2018I Knew You Were Trouble\u2019-level banger, and this is not it.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Taylor Swift, 27, released her third song from Reputation today, Oct. 20, and I am\u2026disappointed. It\u2019s a sweet enough love song that may or not be about her beau Joe Alwyn, 26, but it\u2019s definitely not her best one yet. Remember the heart-tugging desperation of \u201cBack To December,\u201d or the fairy-tale magic we were given with\u201dLove Story?\u201d It\u2019s a well-produced effort, but \u201cGorgeous\u201d is not interesting or catchy enough to rank with Taylor\u2019s greatest love songs.<\/span><\/p>\n

I am a Taylor fan, but I require at least a good hook to forgive her often-cheesy lyrics, and \u201cGorgeous\u201d did not deliver here. Speaking of lyrics, I found myself rolling my eyes on more than one occasion. \u201cYou are so gorgeous it makes me so mad,\u201d might just take the cake for the biggest eye-roll inducing the line of the song, but then again, it doesn\u2019t even come close to, \u201cYou could\u2019ve been getting down to this sick beat,\u201d courtesy of \u201cShake It Off.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Also, the cutesy reference to her cats proves that the Old Taylor can, indeed, come to the phone, so what is even going on here? I thought we were supposed to be subscribing to \u201cedgy\u201d Taylor, but I\u2019m getting mixed messages.<\/span><\/p>\n

As for the music itself, I simply wasn\u2019t grabbed in the way I was by songs like \u201cI Knew You Were Trouble\u201d or \u201cBlank Space.\u201d And it\u2019s different yet again from the other two tracks we\u2019ve heard, so \u201cGorgeous\u201d doesn\u2019t give me an idea of what the new album will sound like overall. But maybe that\u2019s the point.<\/span><\/p>\n

Look, this song doesn\u2019t fall on either side of the spectrum. It\u2019s neither Taylor\u2019s best nor worst song. It\u2019s just okay, and at the end of the day, I would have preferred one of the extremes, because I\u2019ve almost already forgotten about it.<\/span><\/p>\n
